And just adding on to Shape's post...remember when Kobe was out with his shoulder injury, and he returned that night at Boston? Did anybody see the spark in the Lakers when Kobe was on that basketball court? Believe me, our Lakers are in good hands with Kobe at the controls being the leader on this team. He is the future, the new era, the new generation.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SunshineRain:</div><div class="quote_post">Very nice work, but it doesn't really take into account much. For instance, in the finals, when Shaq was trying to lead the way and Kobe was dead meat, you credit Shaq with an 0-3 record. Couldn't one as easily use these numbers to say Kobe should have helped more in the finals? It's just another example of how you can make numbers say anything you want. How about doing the same chart for Rebounds instead of Points? Or shooting percentage?</div> When was Kobe dead meat in the Finals? Shaq was a 1st half player in almost every series for the Lakers. He would dominate the first half, and then get tired or in foul trouble. When Kobe was struggling with his shot, he switched his game to being a passer or taking the ball to the rim to draw fouls. Obviously Shaq is going to have more rebounds and shoot a higher field goal percentage in all of these games. After all his job is to rebound the ball, (something he doesn't even do well for his size.) And he takes much higher field goal percentages than Kobe. This makes as much sense as comparing Kobe's FT shooting % and three point shots to Shaq. Well the fact of the matter is the Lakers did go 0-3 when Shaq led them in scoring against Detroit. The two games Kobe lead them in scoring they split. I'm just basing my analysis on what actually happened and not the 'What if' or 'Should have' scenarios. Also keep in mind, much of Kobe's responsibility was chasing Rip around to make sure he didn't get hot. Shaq on the other hand got destroyed on the inside by the Wallaces.
Here's an off topic question, but some what along the lines. With Shaq now in Miami, should the Heat build around him or their young star Dwayne Wade?
Miami should build around Wade. I'm one huge fan of youth, and youth means the future depending on where the franchise is going with that particular player. Shaq, even though he's still the most dominant player of this era, will soon take a serious toll on wear and tear. He may be 7'1" and 340 pounds, but his legs will buckle, and all those blows he receives from opposing players will soon be the ultimate factor to his downgrade as a powerful dominating center. Wade really opened some eyes last year in the regular season and playoffs, playing in the midst of Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony's shadows. If there's a future star in the making in Wade, you just don't shut the door on him.
As Long As Shaq Is On The Team You Have To Built Around Him First Don't Forget He (wade)had Some Good Player That Got Traded And Still Needed A Big Man To Compete In The East
Okay, since shapecity did the playoffs, I'll do the regular season... The Lakers without Shaq: Lakers 121, Grizzlies 89 Lakers 120, Wizards 99 Clippers 101, Lakers 98 (no Malone) Minnesota 106, Lakers 90 (no Malone) Denver 113, Lakers 91 (no Malone) Lakers 113, Hawks 67 (no Malone, Lakers win by 46 points) Lakers 89, Cavs 79 (no Malone) Lakers 93, Jazz 86 (no Malone) Lakers without Kobe: Lakers 109, Dallas 93 Timberwolves 97, Lakers 84 Lakers 84, Raptors 83 (barely won) Lakers 111, Cavs 106 (overtime game) Sixers 96, Lakers 73 Lakers 98, Magic 96 (barely beat the Magic???) Lakers 98, Heat 83 Hawks 94, Lakers 93 (lost to the same team they beat by 46???) Lakers 94, Nets 88 Jazz 88, Lakers 83 With Kobe on the team by himself, the Lakers went 5-3, or .625...six of those games, there was NO REBOUNDER (that's why I mentioned "no Malone"). With Shaq on the team by himself, they went 6-4, or .600. From now on, all guys who think Shaq was more important can keep their mouth shut
Def. build around Wade he is their future of their organization and should have good people around him right now...Wade should be like Kobe, Go to guy in the 2nd half, Shaq in the 1st.
I Have Love For Kobe Too But Why Don't You Go Back To The Year The Spurs Won It All In 2003 Look At How Many Games They(lakers) Won Without Shaq. If You Saying That You Don't Need A Big Man In The West You Are Wrong.
Use your damn edit button...and about last year when the Spurs one...Everyone on the Lakers had nagging injuries...not just Shaq, and Kobe had no crew to help him..If it was Kobe out that year and not Shaq, I would say the Lakers would of lsot more games in the past 2 seasons or so Kobe has been more important to the Lakers than Shaq, he takes over in teh 2nd half while shaq is sucking wind from being out of shape.

Without Shaq, the Lakers don't have any other player to play the paint, and that's why they were getting destroyed a few years back. All they need is someone like Dampier, who can play the paint better than Medvedenko and Grant did, and a decent backup center and they'd be an awesome team. The lineup without Shaq and Malone had Grant, Medvedenko, George, Kobe and Payton...you can't say how unfair that is to Bryant. Without Kobe and Malone, it was Shaq, Medvedenko, George, Rush, Payton. Rush wasn't a bad player to replace Kobe...at least the man could shoot, whereas no other center could defend.
Yo, can you stop using all caps? Its irritating. I personally see the Lakers in the top 5, behind San Antoino, Minnesota, the Queens, and Houston.
