Things like, "Hey, Carter's wheezing a bit, maybe RJ or Boki should get a touch" or "Nenad needs to get involved, I'll throw him an entry pass" or "The other team is tired on defense and Wright just subbed in, let's fast break." I think Kidd has a great sense of how to run a team (similarly to how a catcher calls a game), and he has the skills to put that knowledge to use.
I think the problem with the current team is that because Carter needs the ball so much to be effective, and will only take in the half court, at the perimeter, that Kidd's game management talent is largely wasted.

Well the recent activity link comes up with what seems like 80% Nets posts every dam day. Now I respect that the nets fans are the most vocal but do they not know anything about the other teams? Of course they do - in fact the Nets fans here are really quite knowlegable about most teams, but they DONT seem to talk about anyone else. Its frustrating - I come here for good BBAll talk and I am starting to know everything about the Nets because there is hardly anything else to read - not really what Im looking for.
BBW didn't really have such a one sided slant in regards to posts thats all I was saying.
Oh well im sure the ol' "if you dont like it leave" will come up shortly. and I might do just that. Perhaps it evens out once the season starts?

Re: Shawn Marion : It's not that I'm blind to what ghoti says, and that I would believe Kidd is absolutely ineffective in running a half court offense. Rather, that our head coach is quite fond of running offense through a prolific scorer, and not running a more team-oriented offensive game. I would prefer if we could go otherwise, but I guess I'll believe it when I see it.
And to Clangus: It sounds that you only are familiar with this site through the front page, which lists the current active boards over the entire site. So yes, you will see this site populated by many threads in the Nets forum, because there are many Nets fans on the board. However you are not forced to read these threads, and I would recommend that you explore the other boards on this website (such as the NBA, Sonics, or others) rather than whats more recently updated on the front page. This is an active website, and many threads get lost on the front page due to the large activity. Just don't feel limited to whats offered at first glance.

Re: Shawn Marion : Its the offseason what else is there to talk about?
There are plenty of threads about other topics than just trading.

No one would ever tell you to leave over such a reasonable complaint.
All I can say is that there are many dedicated mods and posters on the site who are not Nets fans, and they are doing their best to make all the basketball forums active to attract new members.
What forums were the most active at BBW? Are those posters active here?

Playing hard on defense? Moving without the ball? Running the court?
The way the Nets are constructed now, Kidd is too often reduced to standing around the three point line waiting to take a jumper and sniping rebounds.
It works sometimes. Carter wins player of the month at least once a season. It's just that Kidd can get the team farther if the team were built around him.

Re: Shawn Marion : People are so quick to blame the coach. It's really Carter's fault. Each play has multiple options depending on who breaks free, on the defensive alignment, etc. It's not Coach Frank's fault that Carter prefers to dominate control of the ball and, more often than not, shoot it. Remember, it was at that "town hall" meeting earlier in the year when Frank broke the facade and admitted to one of our intrepid posters that every training camp, the coaches do all they can, but getting Carter to change his mindset has been like watching a glacier melt. Every year, though, he's willing to listen just a little more.
That's why trading Carter for Marion makes more sense than trading RJ for Marion. Replacing RJ with Marion would result in essentially the same team identity, albeit with a few more blocks and steals on defense. The team still won't run unless Carter makes it a priority. I still have hope, though, that he'll "get it," but less so every season.
As for Clangus' point, many of us in the Nets forum are proud of the sense of community we've built. Yes, we create a lot of threads. Many are about the Nets, some ridiculously so. Some are about other players and other teams. Some are completely off-topic and have to do with other sports or no sport whatsoever. Yes, some of these threads could be posted elsewhere, but many of us enjoy interacting with the same people, regardless of the topic. Feel free to join in whenever you want, but I, for one, won't move to another sub-forum simply because I want to discuss something that doesn't have anything to do with the Nets.

A few years ago, there was a TV show where fans got to challenge pro athletes at something. For instance, one guy's challenge was to try to get a hit off of some Dodger pitcher. I think the Nets should do something similar and allow fans to challenge Nets to some athletic competitions.
I would challenge Carter to a footrace. Nothing too extreme, say five miles or 10K. I would have no chance in the 100 yard dash, simply because his strides are just so much longer than mine, but I think I'd have a chance in some distance that requires some endurance. I'm ten years older than Carter, and I'll bet I could beat him. Now that would be gripping TV! What would you choose?
