Shawn Porter (29-2-1, 17 KOs) started off slowly in the first four rounds but then came on in the second half to defeat former two division world champion Danny Garcia (34-2, 20 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision to win the vacant World Boxing Council welterweight title on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The judges scored it 116-111, 115-113 and 115-113. Boxing News 24 scored it for Porter by a 117-111 score. Porter boxed Garcia in the first quarter of the fight. As you would expect, Porter wasn’t effective when he was boxing Garcia.
