We don't know that exactly. We know they were unwilling to max out both Harden AND Westbrook. Why wouldn't they be willing to pay for one of the top power forwards in the game?

Not sure how I'm being confusing here. I'm saying that LA cost significantly more then they were willing to spend, so a swap for Harden was never a possibility. Nolan for LBJ would be my prefered fantasy...if we're not bound by reality why not dream big?

Because they already paid that summer over 10 million for Ibaka as well. would be a lot o fmoney on two PFs. When they wwre unwilling to do so for Harden.

The trade could have been structured to bring Ibaka or Perkins to PDX with Harden, thus addressing the financial issue.

could have been, but that speciulates an even bigger deal. For Harden they got a recent lotto pick, a guaranteed lotto pick, another pick, and also got a guy who can get them 20 points a night as a 6th man in Martin. All that for Harden, why would they add another good piece to "just" get Aldridge back?

Then we are back to saying Presti is not too bright. He saw Hardin every day for three years in practice and games and still wanted to unload him? I guess we all assume it was a money issue because everyone asked the question for about two years.. "how is OKC going to sign all three of them when their rookie contracts expire?"

And I don't buy the Westbrook-Hardin duplication theory. It obviously was working or they would not have reached the finals. To me it is simple, they either did not want to max out 3 guys, or they are stupid........

I'm sure it would have been more than "just" LMA. Crawford probably would have been part of the deal - plus our draft pick (#11).
But then I suppose at the last deadline OKC was still hoping that Harden wouldn't demand MAX... But you have to wonder if they were offered LMA/Crawford/lotto pick for Harden/Perkins they may have taken that up in order to shed Perkins, not have to fret about whether they'd retain Harden, and obtain a lotto pick - and get a PF that most think is (one of) the best in the league.
Nobody will ever know if it could have happened, but it doesn't seem far-fetched.

that's the problem is we don't know, and speculating on it as if it was close to happening just makes people get mad about something they made up in their head, which seems stupid. Oh, we should have done X, without knowing if X was possible. So so and so was stupid for not doing it.

Eh - that's why we're here. To speculate, argue, and get mad over dumb shit that doesn't matter.

    LA is a stud. Period.

Roy, Oden and Aldridge. It's a good thing for the league the other two didn't translate. Had no idea he was this good.

I'm so glad I was wrong.

With that said, nobody predicted that Aldridge would take a leap like this. Nobody.
