Will always love Dame, second favorite Blazer ever. However, Jrue/Dame/Scoot would be a mistake imo. I don’t think it’s gonna be easy to move off Jrue. Probably why Bos said “keep the 2nds”. I do like Jrue though.
Wouldn't all the people who wanted Dame gone to begin with have been proven right beyond all doubt? Blazers got a haul in Camara Deni two unprotected picks and two unprotected swaps. Dame won 0 playoff series with MVP level Giannis, got cut, and is being discussed as a vet minimum signing.
People probably forget but we were in a similar situation when we had a chance to bring back Rod Strickland after he left Washington. We already had Damon and Greg Anthony but Bob couldn’t resist. bringing back Rod was the beginning of the end of that team. It self destructed after that.
Rod Strickland was averaging 12/7 as the starter in Washington that season while Dame isn't able to walk right now. Not clear Dame will ever be a starting level player for any of the 30 NBA teams again. The other NBA teams that want him today are talking about him being a possible vet minimum signing. But some fans here in Portland are talking about him going back to the Blazers franchise player role on the team. The more I think about it - it makes zero sense to acquire Dame on a number of levels. We haven't even touched the defensive identity the Blazers have somehow built that Dame could never be able to contribute with.
Dame on his last NBA contract is completely finished. Ending was written, the book is over. It had him accomplishing little when paired with an MVP, tearing his Achilles, and being cut. Thankfully the Blazers got a haul of assets instead.
Yeah I was mostly comparing the chemistry issue that occurred because they brought in Rod to an already crowded backcourt and he expected to play. Everyone knows that Dame is gonna expect to start when he gets back, whether he can or not. I think Dame still thinks he can be a franchise guy. So we have some fans and Dame who most likely are not facing the reality of his injury. It’s a recipe for disaster.
So give Dame a 3 year max NTMLE? Then in 2027-28 we'd be paying about 55million for a pair of 38 year old PG's.
A Jrue/Deni/Toui/Grant/Clingan lineup would be very good defensively. I’d still rather get Sharpe in there but I think we would be hard to score on.
Yeah I do want to see how that lineup plays. The problem starting it is then both Scoot+Sharpe would be off the bench so can't get them a lot of minutes unless we play Sharpe undersized at SF. A 3 guard rotation with one of Scoot/Sharpe starting can have all guys close to 30mpg.
Nate --- Dame and Rod are not even in the same ball park -- and if you think they are then your more far gone than i even thought -- easy the dumbest take I have seen in awhile. One is considered to be a Top 3 player to EVER play on the Blazers and the other just had a couple good years with the Blazer and moved on. - period
Hey sweetness, you seen Dame play after tearing his Achilles? He’s about to be 35 and returning from one of the most devastating injuries an athlete can suffer. You don’t know what he’s gonna look like. Save your bullshit posts for someone else.
Sign me up. Dame has gained a ton of Humility. Wants to be here. Wants to win a ship. Could it fail? Sure. Anything can fail, i'd bet on him and it not failing Great post.
