I don't like that Timbers jerseys say Alaska Airlines either but at least there's the explanation that soccer doesn't have breaks for commercials like basketball and football do. I'd be perfectly fine with sponsors on jerseys if it greatly reduced commercials, but that's definitely not how it would go down.
I'm sure you've watched the Timbers game on TV haven't you? There's a good amount of commercials. Commercials simply come down to the way TV is given to us in this country. In Finland and other countries, commercials are like a 10 minute break in between TV shows. You get a block of commercials and you can turn that bullshit off. Here in America we are inundated with commercials. That's capitalism for you...
Soccer games go 45 minutes without breaking for commercials at halftime and then go another 45 minutes without commercials for the second half though. Nowhere near the same amount of commercials as basketball or football. Basketball games break for 2 minutes of commercials every few minutes of gameplay. Watching soccer on TV is much more enjoyable to me than any other sport because of this.
They can't do that during soccer, everyone would think the commercials are more exciting then the actual game.
I know that's a joke but I think soccer is more exciting than football. And I've never even played soccer, I played football through high school.
Well don't get too comfortable with them. One of my best friends is a designer out at Nike and will be one of the lead guys out there for the NBA. They take over from adidas next season and he said there will be no more sleeved jerseys thank god! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You shouldn't worry either. Earlier is this thread it was suggested that we maybe shouldn't even wear the jerseys unless we play for the team. I thought that might bother you so I'll remind you that technically you can still wear Pittsburgh Pirates apparel.
