<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Actually he doesn't. That is Dirk's signature move. Dirk does have a wicked pump fake though. If I had to call a move Dirk did his signature, it would be his stepback fadeaway. He does it more often and it's a key maneuver he's done for years.

I know so many players who do that...and probably just as good as Dirk.

I hope that you were kidding. He forces alot of shots, he turns the ball over alot, and he is always out trying to prove himself instead of playing within the team. I actually think he is a very dumb basketball player.I say that Timmy D is #1. Like somebody else said, he isnt very athletic, but he is very smart around the basket, and uses a variety of post moves to score.

Boykins is 5'5'' and he can score, but his basketball IQ is not at the top of the list by any means. He turns the ball over, gets burnt on defense routinely (not all necessarily because of the size mismatches either, it's because he doesn't read the ballhandler very well), and some of the decisions he makes passing the ball make me raise an eyebrow at times. Earl Boykins shouldn't be mentioned in this thread.

Kobe Bryant is the best at it by far though.

He grew up with a father in Bill Walton and spent time regularly in his childhood with Larry Bird. The guy has had great coaches throughout his life and IS one of the smartest players in the NBA.

Top 15 in my book. Regardless, everyone around the Lakers organization when asked about Luke always talk about how smart he is and how high his basketball IQ is. Especially, when Phil Jackson says it you know that means something. I watched the Life story of Luke on Fox "Before the Bigs" and it showed how he grew up learning about the game of basketball from Larry Bird and his father. From College to the Pros he has had some very good coaches which in depth will almost always ultimately have an effect on a player.

In fact, Kobe Bryant does that better than Dirk does, good one. Nobody has mentioned Sam Cassell yet? He's one of the smartest basketball players in history, shame on you guys for overlooking him...</div> Sam Cassell gives up as many points as he scores, Timmy from South Park could play better defense in his wheelchair....sorry, I had to watch Cassell play for 4 years. If that guys smart Mike James is a Rhodes Scholar.

In my opinion all the great players are smart players. Take any top 25 player and you can make a case for him being the smartest player in the league.
