I got to thinking the other day about all the great players (in this case HOF players) that started there careers with a team played AT LEAST 10 seasons with that team only to be traded. Guys like............ Rod Carew (12)............Twins Jimmie Foxx (11).......... A's Rogers Hornsby (12)....St Louis Eddie Mathews (15)......Braves Eddie Murray (12).........Orioles) Tony Perez (13)............Reds Jackie Robinson (10).....Dodgers Ron Santo (14)............Cubs Tom Seaver (11)..........Mets Billy Williams (16).........Cubs And the Kings of trading away veteran players are.....The Giants Willie Mays (20 years) Willie McCovey (15 years) Christy Mathewson (16 years) Juan Marichal (14 years) Gaylord Perry (10 years) Orlando Cepeda (9 years) And non HOFers like Bobby Bonds & Will & Jack Clark.
Great Stuff Rick, and lets add Matt Williams to the list. My brother played against Williams Bishop, CA, High School Team. Bishop sits a mile high, and Matt was a HR Machine, (so was my brother, who would not be out done or shown up by the Giant 3rd bagger). Nothing,....not even a BB career, could deter Daniel from his life long wish to be a Cop, to 'Protect and Serve' those he loved.
People forget that in the strike shortened season of 1994 Matt Williams was on his way to being the new all time HR champ. I believe he had 43 HRs in only 115 games. And was on pace for 65.
