Not all of any population does anything, obviously, aside from a very few life sustaining acts like eat, sleep, and shit. But we're discussing the overall impact of the whole generation, are we not?
I simply used one as an example of a great many I can list. Civil Rights is only one issue as well. Many people fought for and died for that issue alone. The transformation of the Willamette River was huge in Portland. SOLV, GreenPeace, NASA, Women's Rights, Need i bring up Abortion? The list goes on and on.
even saying "losing your marbles" dates you to about 1955 black and white tv dialogue....a real humdinger!
And I don't take it personally (at least not from you). But you just literally described my working life. Early on we (barely) scraped by on my low(er) paying job, supplemented by the GI Bill, so my wife could stay home and be a mother until my sons reached school age. I worked a full time job and then went to school for 3-18 hours a term in an effort to get ahead professionally. It was brutal. How my wife balanced our budget still awes me to this day. If it wasn't for credit we would have went under. When my wife finally joined the work force we still struggled, because kids get more costly as they get older. We were fortunate to have supportive parents, but it was still a struggle. And in the mid '70's inflation was rampant and the job market sucked. Home loan interest rates were in the high teens (we thought we had died and gone to heaven when a momentary "glitch" in 1986 allowed us to finance a home for "only" 9.5% interest!!) Every generation had its road blocks that the previous generations are at least partially responsible for. Not making excuses, just pointing out the reality. And I wish I was going to be around when the generations following yours comes into their own.....just so I can know how you folks "failed"....... And I agree wholeheartedly on the cell phone thing. I did not succumb until just 10 years ago. And in general I'm sorry I did. I love having a computer in my pocket, but if only I could totally disable the telephone part........
But nobody is denying any of those things... Boomers are also killing abortion rights for future generations right now... Boomers also neutered NASA. And women's rights has been a decades long battle started long before the boomers. The boomers like to take credit for a lot, but really, about the best thing they did was have kids. And their kids have the responsibility of being the responsible generation.
You'll be happy to learn that you can definitely buy a smartphone which will allow you to disable the telephone part!
Your facts are a little sketchy here again. Boomers are not the one's killing abortion rights. That is a political issue that is being supported by the very youngest republicans. Boomers did not neuter NASA. That again was done in 2013 as a restructuring plan because Congress and the Senate (Both republican controlled) would not fund it. They felt space exploration could be better served from the private sector. Now we have Billionaires flying in space but very little actual research being done. The ERA was pretty much a Boomer movement. Of course eventually it was struck down but a number of big strides were made for equality.
NASA was neutered in the 70s and 80s. It hasn't been the same since. And the largest voting block for Republicans or democrats is the boomers... But most boomers vote republican. And are turning more republican by the year...
I really dislike having conversations with people who obviously have no recollection of the facts. You obviously have missed the entire Space Shuttle program. Go to any MAGA Trump rally and tell me those people are Boomers? Those people are not 60-80 years old. They are Gen X and younger. Just accept you are wrong again.
The space shuttle was a huge waste for political gain and cost many lives. That was part of the neutering of NASA. I couldn't care less about MAGA rallies. Far more people of that age vote Democrat than republican. You keep telling me I'm wrong, yet your claims aren't supported by any statistics or historical evidence. You realize I'm not wrong just because you say I am, correct?
