Seems right for this particular community, based on the racial makeup of the rioting looters.

I think that's already covered in "criminals".

Wow, this situation is fucked. At first, I thought it was just another misunderstanding and that the police officer was just in shooting, considering the perceived scuffle, etc. But now, after eyewitnesses have come forward (multiple ones at that), and seeing the response of the police to the protesters, the audio tapes coming out (Which are fucked, how did local police not know?) It's looking more and more like a complete cover-up of a trigger happy police officer. And that pains me to say that considering I have police officers in my family.

It means they dropped the ball enough that their own peers don't want them there.

From what I have heard, the rioters and looters are actually people from St Louis driving over for "fun." The people that actually live in Ferguson are not doing the looting of their own city.

I have been to St. Louis, but only for a week for a conference, hardly a comprehensive view of a city. I basically saw a hotel.

Yes, I have been closely following events in Ferguson.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't the police dept. recruit people from the neighborhoods?

They already had their 5 black officers and figured they'd met quota? :ghoti:

I heard a guy talking, just bullshitting on the police recently, and he made a great point that is similar: The police used to live where they worked, and were invested in the safety of their neighborhoods because they were part of them. That's gone now.

"dropped the ball" is such a kind euphemism for "looked like a military coup".

    3 black officers, not 5.

Eastoff, if what you say is true it reminds me of Occupy Oakland when people from suburbs looted stores in the name of "anarchy" (anarchy has nothing to do with breaking windows) and all anyone heard about was those 10 morons and not the hundreds assembling peacefully.

Meanwhile the reporter who was arrested posted a take down of Joe Scarborough who sat in his safe studio attacking those actually there.

And combat veterans of wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia all said they went into battle with less armore than the Ferguson cops are displaying.

Heard from who? The media? That's a rich one. Its like the mom who's kid was shot while committing a robbery and saying her son was an aspiring rapper and turning his life around.

The chief of police was really enthusiastic at correcting the 3 officer rumor... By confirming they only have 5.
