Stats for young players tell us nothing. The reason being is almost all young players get better after their first year or two, especially if their minutes are inconsistent. Last year we were arguing over CJ's shooting stats for the first 10 games of the season......."shockingly" those stats were worthless when it came to predicting how good of a shooter he could eventually be. Vonleh is not yet 20. You may be right about him or you could be completely wrong. But I don't get why we keep making these blanket statements about young players when we have not seen them play consistent minutes.
Wait, what? Did RoyToy, the poster who actually got off on his/her hatred of Batum, actually just say that Charlotte sold high on Vonleh? After Batum's worst pro season? When we did receive Henderson in return? Which is it, dude?
Im sorry im not buying it.. Theres a catch with Vonleh. Besides CHA has a terrible draft history most likely they got Vonleh wrong and we're left with their left overs
"...we have not seen them play consistent minutes." And that is a big part of the differing viewpoints. Some see this as an excuse, and some see it as a red flag. Is it better for a rookie to play hard and struggle, or to sit on the bench and watch?
Olshey worked Vonleh out before he was drafted and liked him alot. They didn't just randomly get him on a whim. He's probably 2 years away from making the leap where the game slows down. It's a process and in my mind, a great investment without spending a fortune
Charlotte really has little to do with this. I am pretty sure I read that we scouted him and brought him in for workouts. Maybe it is as simple as Neil targeting him this summer going out and getting him.
My entire point is not that's he's going to bust and be out of the NBA in 4 years I just don't see how he'll ever reach the level of an all-star PF. The Bosh and Aldridge comparisons are insane to me.
Play hard and struggle and hope fans are smart enough to understand that it is a process and while they are getting inconsistent minutes they will not get into a groove. All these guys are used to being stars and getting the most shots/minutes on their team. It takes time to adjust to inconsistent minutes. (Among other things like better talent)
Actually it really is. I mean if Leonard could come around, maybe our staff has the ability to teach him the game too?
What's with all these rooks? They just get mouthier and mouthier by the day. I noticed HCP has been mostly silent. Has he been overtaken by noobs?
I think the baseball playing Irishman is going to be a scorer as well as the Spaniard. Pat C and D Diez are both exceptional 3pt shooters. We need an elite defensive coordinator. Spend where it counts Paul!
I HOPE he isn't going to be another Aldridge! It took forever to get that bum off our team! The scouting report you posted said: "Don’t think he’ll be a star. It’s not his personality. He’s a starter but has to be your third- or fourth-best player." PERFECT! You don't want your PF to be a star, you WANT them to be your third- or fourth-best player.
Is Diez coming over? My guess is he will be the player used if we can get someone to trade us talent for cap space.
We don't know but why not with this roster..the guy is famous for lights out shooting. Rasta says he's a lousy defender but a lot of great shooters are.
Diez is a decent three point shooter. I wouldn't call him elite. What I would say is interesting about him is that he has significantly improved whatever the competition. I think he will make a good bench player and contribute eventually.
I think players you want to bring be young bucks. I don't think we want to go the vet route right now. But hey, if we make the playoffs with our youth, we make a big push next summer to bring those vets. I know I'm going full mags, but I think we can make the playoffs with our young bucks. Maybe add a couple more young bucks after the rookie contract is about as vet as I want to get
