All I have to do is change it to "a third of the team" and that makes you have to readjust your whole answer.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Not at all. I said this: "rhetoric like 'half the team' (whether taken literally or figuratively to mean 'a bunch of players')..."

The figurative version works fine for a third of the team.

His name pops up a lot if we're taking back Okafur, which NO would want. The combined salaries of those five players you listed isn't enough otherwise.

Good point. If only we could somehow get David Kahn to be NO's next GM. He's another winner.

Ah, I didn't know that was your point, guess I wasn't keeping up with the conversation.

However, in the case of Pippen, the best player from the year before that we shipped out was Walt Williams and he was 28. Even Bayless and Rudy are putting up close to the numbers he put up and they're much younger. Basically every player being talked about in this Chris Paul trade is better than the best player we sent out in the Pippen trade, save Joel simply because we don't know how he'll bounce back from the injury.

I personally am just a little wary when every trade scenario I see involves 5/6 guys who were pretty substantial parts of the rotation last year when healthy. And then I'm apparently a homer because I don't want to also involve Oden on top of that for a possible two year rental of a superstar who's allegedly taking career advice from Lebron. If the Blazers face the Heat in the Finals, we'll have the entire world outside South Beach rooting for us.

excellent point. i've thought the same too. letz talk abt the minimum offer we can provide that would surpass what ORL, DAL, NYC are willing to give up. we have the advantage.

In terms of making NO happy (what they're getting back) AND providing CP3 a winner (his destination team's roster), what can NY, ORL, DAL offer to outbid us??

Not so. Damon was not "great" in Toronto. He put up stats, but they were hollow.
