Sounds good! Want to show me the good spots next month? You can pick me up at the Aquatic Park where the MarAzul will be anchored.
But really.... there's more than one kind of minimalism. You like to "party on" (bro). You don't need as much home space cuz it seems like you're always out eating, going out, seeing and doing things. For some.... minimalism is more about keeping things simple, enjoying the comforts of home, relaxing at home. That's how I roll. I spend most of my summer relaxing in the backyard, grilling and drinking. Maybe listening to a little music.
Ashland, Oregon is the real hipster spot of Oregon now, maaaaan. It's small and out of the way and nobody talks about it yet.
you just don't know whitespeak for bed, bath and beyond....it's hipster code for why they don't have to live in LA....
I haven't been to BBY since I was in college. My yard is nicely landscaped and cool. I enjoy chilling out there. Content. I do enough travel for work and with the family that I get my adventures that way and enjoy relaxing at home. I live a few blocks from several fantastic restaurants, so a nice bite and chilling at home is great.
We don't have many chain restaurants in our town, aside from fast food. The cheesiest place near us is McMenamin's.
I've met MarAzul a few times and have even been down to his Bandon estate. He is true gentleman and fun to talk with. As long as you both agreed on which topics to not discuss, I'm sure you would have a great lunch. Not sure about you driving him around. Maybe save that for next year.
Just in the past year, the rent for my 1 bedroom apartment here in Vancouver went up from $585, to $670, and now it's $918 a month. In one year. I think prices everywhere are going up, but it's probably most painful in places like Portland.
$918 a month. I paid $1200/month for a 1 bedroom apt in Brooklyn, in 1994... It is probably $3500 a month now...
$918 would barely rent a room in Oakland. In San Francisco, a place on the floor. I socialize with people with whom I disagree on some issues, of course - how often do we meet someone with whom we are in accord 100% of the time? But they have to at least support my equal civil rights. Anyone who does not agree with that is not someone with whom I voluntarily associate.
The first part of your post, I agree: prices in the Bay Area are fucking ridiculous. But I think (though I'm not up-to-date on Bay Area rates of pay) that the income is higher in the Bay Area than here. It's the same reason the barren oil fields in the Dakotas are so expensive to live in: the folks that work those fields make enormous amounts of money for the work they do. As for the second part of your post......sorry, have I said something here that you disagree with? Or were you addressing another post?
