I agree with Casual here...Swifty and Johan have given us a little bit of a presence in the middle. I'm not saying they're the Big Stoppers in the middle, but it's more than what we've had all season. Both have improved drastically..and especially Swift...he has been getting better in each game.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Casual:</div><div class="quote_post"> I don't know how you could watch a game and think that Swift and Petro aren't helping the team.</div> What is the deal with this forum and imagining that people write things that they didn't? Show me where I so much as mentioned Petro's name anywhere in any of my posts in this thread. Also show me where I said that Petro and Swifty aren't helping the team. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Casual:</div><div class="quote_post"> And you act like Reggie doesn't play off of perimeter players so he can get more rebounds.</div> Once again, where did I say that? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Don't get so hung up on last season. Reggie can score, but he's still a horrible player on the offensive side of the ball because he destroys any momentum.</div> I agree with you here. If you had ever watched a Sonics game before you would know that Ray and Luke make sure that Reggie gets all of his touches near the very beginning of the game. That way he doesn't destroy the momentum, because yes he is a ball-stopper. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm all for disagreeing with everybody for the sake of disagreeing, but this is just ridiculous.</div> Apparently, you're also all for accusing people of saying things that they never said. Let's recap: 1. Accused me of saying that Petro and Swifty don't help the team when I never mentioned Petro's name period! I also never said that either of them doesn't help the team, simply that at this point Swifty isn't doing anything Reggie can't. 2. Accused me of "acting like Reggie doesn't play off perimeter players to get rebounds". I never said that, and this is a message board, not a theatre. Don't accuse me of "acting" like anything, start taking what I say literally. 3. Made yourself look like a fool by fabricating/hallucinating a bunch of quotes, and then claiming that I "disagree for the sake of it". You live in Seattle buddy? Since you seem to enjoy fabrication so much, go downtown and look for a guy in a wheelchair named "Sarge". He'll be the one holding a sign and pretending to be a Vietnam vet. I'm sure you two could swap some interesting stories.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jurassic:</div><div class="quote_post">Reggie Evan's brings a lot more experience to the floor than Swift. Also, Reggie was a part of the winning formula last year, Swifty was not. Our starting lineup needed some tweaking? Sure. So start Vlad, he's played big minutes before. Don't start Swift, especially not against a Jazz team with a center who has the ability to torch us from both the outside and inside.</div> You claim not to want Swift in the line up so my question is who do you replace him with? It sounds as if you want to replace him with a undersize power forward in Evans, which in my mind would be absolutely pointless. Here is the business of the NBA. Reggie Evans is in a log jam for minutes at the power forward with Vlad and Nick Collison (and Sweet Lew when we go small). Although Reggie is our best rebounder he doesn't fit into the free flowing offensive system that Bob Hill wants to implement. He scores when he gets offensive rebounds or when he gets the ball in the post and has to take 5 seconds off of the shot clock to make his move. No one is ever going to double Reggie Evans which means when he gets the ball in the post that pretty much means that he will be the one shooting it--which I don't necessarily think is high percentage offense. Reggie Evans will be an unrestricted free agent next year and it doesn't make sense to feature his style of play in an offense that isn't conducive to his strengths. Last year's team didn't run that much--and Reggie Evans also didn't play starter's minutes when he was in the game. He does deserve to play much more than he does but I don't think that we'd be much better of a team with him playing significant minutes. If you aren't impressed with the progress that Swift has made than you must be one of those people who let your first impression of people become your only impression. On a different team Swift wouldn't deserve to start but b/c of Pot's ineffectiveness/injuries, Fortson's volatileness/injuries, and Clinton Moore's lack of muscle we are forced to choose between our two first round picks of the last two seasons. Swift has shown that he is probably better across the board at all facets of the game than Petro in the past 6-7 games and that is why he has gotten the nod over Petro. That is no knock on Petro but more of a statement about how much Swift is improving. Swift has yet to be torched by any opposing center since he has gotten significant minutes. It didn't happen last night with Ostertag/Collins and I don't anticipate it happening with any of the marginal centers in this league. The kid competes and as a Sonic fan you have to try to find some comfort in the fact that your team is losing. The first thing that I think of when I watch a Sonic game is how well with Swift play tonight. That is saying something about his progress. Hope you weren't misquoted/interpreted in this post. Lord knows that we all fear the backlash.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Iron Shiek:</div><div class="quote_post">You claim not to want Swift in the line up</div> Hold on, you're gonna love this next part. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jurassic:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah Swift is a part of the future, but now is NOT the time to be experimenting with young talent. <font size=""5"">Bring him off the bench.</font></div> Don't you think that it would make more sense to play him against bench players? Sure the Jazz's big men are nothing special in the post. But I wen to the Heat game a couple weeks back and they had him in there banging with Shaq and Zo! He's a part of the future, how is playing him against those guys going to help his confidence and make him better? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Iron Shiek:</div><div class="quote_post">Hope you weren't misquoted/interpreted in this post.</div> So much for that . I love to debate, and I admit that I go overboard with this insults at time. Please try to understand that it is frustrating to have a discussion where people are claiming that I said things that I didn't. I can show you multiple threads in the Sonics forum where this has happened. I'll cut back on the insults. All I'm saying is that I'd appreciate it if people would actually read what I'm writing rather than making stuff up. Go Supes .
And I'll make sure that I clarify that when I say line up it implies starting five and when I say in the rotation implies playing significant minutes. I have yet to feel the wrath of Jurassic. Some things in life I believe are inevitable though.
