He won't flee. He will go to Mar a Lago and surround himself with loyal right wing militia to protect himself from prosecution.
I'm more than a little worried. Been telling my folks to come live with me just cuz I don't want them alone if something goes down
All over the world, right at this moment, there are "elected" dictators. What happened following the last election was a declaration, by the people, that we aren't going down like that, at least not without a fight. And while our governmental checks have not always kept the balance with Trump in office, they've (kind of) kept him from going full tyrant. Over and over Trump proves those who oppose him right, revealing there are places in our system for improvement. Trump is that pink stuff your dentist makes you chew to expose places where there is plaque buildup (except Trump is the plaque). You can try to elect the next Mussolini all you want, my friend, but not without pushback. Trump has exposed just how easily people can go cult, en masse, and it's a scary thing. It's also a little ironic that a Trump sympathiser could draw a comparison between people exercising their constitutional right, ie the First Amendment, and the potential constitutional crisis that looms on the horizon. (That being said, in response to @MickZagger, I think a landslide is upon us and there will be no traction to be had [it should be noted, I thought Trump had no chance last election. Oops.]. The vote will be an overwhelming indictment and he'll accept defeat and join Fox News. Post-Trump will be interesting though. Yes, perhaps a little civil unrest. But in reality there is walk of shame ahead for many of you, the likes of which we've not seen in the United States. And there will be people blinking awake, like where am I, because the catalyst to all this acrimony will be gone. It continually, and always has, amazed me that people just obsess on individuals. Personally, I have no heros and I'm proud of it. People are inherently flawed (like me). Put too much power in one person's hands, and you get something like what we've been dealing with for the last nearly-4 years.)
The biggest (biggliest?) ugliness will take place in those cities where the cops are not so secretly allied with groups like the proud boys. Even in the most blue states, the cops are a 5th column.
There won't be a civil war. The internet still works. The water is on. We have electricity. I can still watch Netflix. I can still eat. Most of us still have jobs. There might be some small skirmishes and a handful of people might die tragically, but it won't be a full on civil war. With that said, if Trump were to win, I think downtown Portland will be a disaster for months.
So, all the people indoctrinated by Trump will suddenly go back to normal like the people at the end of the faculty did when the Queen was taken out?
Hopefully, Trump will lose and leave and go back to the apprentice. He can even bring his cabinet with him and do the show as, "Mr President." They can even film from prison.
Not normal, but the social pressure will return, and a call for decency. This was a HUGE wake up call. I think tolerance for bigotry will be at an all time low (am I an optimist or what? geez.).
There's been a lot of talk about this, but IMO, the SC won't agree to hear Trump's protest if there is one.
Why not? It will be 6-3 or at least 5-4 hardline conservatives, 2 of who Trump has put in. If there is an election issue they will have too, like in 2000
I mean, this sounds good, and I want this to be true, but I am pretty sure the Proud Boys love their guns and have proven they are more than willing to fight, shoot, destroy people, things, whatever they want. Add to that the police turning a blind eye in many cases. Add to that the full "realization" (from Trumps words) that the election was just "Stolen" from them and I think we will see a new level of anger and violence. 2020 isnt just going to strike midnight on Jan 1 and things get magically better. We're this for the long haul.
The military and the leaders in Congress on the Right have all expressed a belief in following the Constitution and a peaceful transition.
They won't be dragged out kicking and screaming but in the tiny tiny fraction of a percent probability of that happening then they will be dragged out kicking and screaming.
