When it comes to the draft the name I keep coming back to is Jarvis Varnado. While maybe a little thin at 6-9 and around 220-230, he averages over 10 rebs a game and 4.7 blks. I still remember when this guy when Mississippi St beat Oregon in the tourney a couple years ago and he just impressed the hell out of me and that has stayed with me. And even though he's 6-9 220 or so, he has like a 7-4 wingspan. And just to show off some athleticism
I just think he'll get abused in the league. He's built like a pencil and his length won't get him the easy boards like they did in college. He needs to seriously hit the weight room.
That's why I like Whiteside so much. He's nearly as good a shot-blocker as Varnado, but has NBA size.
If possible I'd love to see the Blazers move up a few spots and nab Udoh ... there's just something about that guy with his ability to dribble drive, his defensive instincts and his versatility
And Udoh can? Aldridge looked good in college as a defender as well. Besides, didn't really meanmuch by it, just thought the comparison was funny, since it's been used often for LMA.
Aldridge has been pretty much a disappointment to me this year. I thought he played a lot harder on the defensive end of the court in his first couple of years and has taken a major step backward. As for Udoh, I guess I'm just impressed with his instincts, how he'll measure up to Rasheed remains to be seen.
I have not seen much of him at all. My previous comment in no way was meant to be critical of him. Honestly, I just thought it was funny that I remember seeing that same Bets case scenario from LMA 5 years ago, it seem, on DX's website. Reading their breakdown of his game, he sounds moer like a poor man's Bosh with more effort on the defensive end, IMo. I dunno if that is your opinion in watching him play? The discussion of running their offense through him, and doing it with him facing up at about 15 feet, and creating off the dribble sounds a lot more like Bosh than Aldridge, who doesn't necessarily create for himself off the dribble from 15 feet out.
Greg Monroe or Favors if we want to re-build the PF position through the draft..Larry Sanders would be a nice project around where we would be picking...Don't even bother with any point guards not named John Wall from Kentucky...this might be the best time to trade up for a young center with so many available and us having expendable assets
