Southend United are to submit plans for a new 22,000-seater stadium to the local borough council on Tuesday.
The Shrimpers hope to move from their current Roots Hall ground, which has been their home since 1955 but where the capacity is just under 12,500.

The planned new ground at Fossetts Farm was designed by architects HOK, who designed Arsenals Emirates Stadium.

If the plans are approved, Southend hope to move to the new stadium early in the 2008/09 season.

The new complex would incorporate hotel and conference facilities, and be linked to a proposed retail development.

The Championship club hope to receive a decision on the application from Southend Borough Council early in 2007.

Chairman Ron Martin completed his buy-out of fellow joint owner Delancey Estates' stake in the club in March - which included the freehold of Roots Hall, the training ground and a portion of land where the new ground is planned.

Man what I wouldn't give to just dribble a ball ontop around that building. [IMG]
