Good luck ever signing a player who cares about the game. You'd have 12 of the most self-centered, lazy, un-motivated players in the league, and no stars at all. Plus, it's an asset for the team and the league that they get the media exposure.

Every team has protection against these things, it's called insurance.

Or you could just have non-guaranteed contracts, and it's up to the player to take care of themselves.

I don't think you have to put it in the contract - NBA Teams already stop their players competing. Chicago won't let Noah play for France or Deng play for Britain. NJ won't even let Najera play for Mexico - and it's not like he was playing for them anyway! It's whether or not the team wants to be a dick about it.

I'm just waiting for a team to have the balls to say their player(s) can't play for the US team. It's only fair, right?

So you think the team USA should be made up of college players?

Nope, I'm saying if I was an NBA franchise, I would want to protect my investment.

I would to, but not allowing your players to play on the world stage could cost them endorsement dollars, and could bite a team during free agency and during contract negotiations.

Didn't both Roy and LA sit out the USA team because they didn't have their extensions? They even were being paid for next year, but didn't want to take the chance. I would think if players are worried about not playing until they have their contracts then they should understand if their team doesn't want them to once they are under contract.

Looks like Roy agrees with me, if you consider what he said in the Portland Tribune.

It's in most contracts (and/or the CBA) that teams are not allowed to disallow players to compete in international competition.

EDIT: Or so I've been led to believe.

I thought a Serrano Hamstring what the Indians outfielder pulled while striking out because bats, they are sick. He cannot hit curveball. Straightball he hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. He ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. He offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
