Got my cards back, figured it was a good time to take pictures for you guys. First off are my disappointing returns. Autographs were unable to be verified even though I know they were real because I saw them get signed. The Jordan was damaged by its case so it got an altered rating. If you zoom in on the framed name of Jordan you can see the printing is off also, that would have significantly lowered its grade so its probably not as big of a loss as I originally thought, but damn the centering is really good on it.
Here are my good returns so far. Gem Mint 10 stockton is a big hit. The other 3 I was hoping for a 9 but got an 8, which is a bummer but still worth something.
and all the rest. Looking at them after they were graded its obvious how off they were. They are all basically worthless with these ratings. I was thinking 7 or 8 on all of these. Learned a bunch on the grading process and if I was submitting right now I would have put them all in on a lower priority and been more critical. I still have a ton of cards I am waiting on.
2021 panini score card hobby boxes just went live on panini direct. $300 a box limit of 5, it's probably your only chance if paying retail if you are interested. They are going fast.
Nevermind, out of stock in less than 10 minutes. If you like cards you should sign up on this site to get notifications.
...if you really like games of chance, then checkout group breaks where you can buy into a box/case at a fraction of the cost.
I've been watching some high end box breaks online and it's amazing how entertaining it is to see other people open packs. Doubt I'd buy in though, I like ripping them myself, or I'll just buy the card I want. Really Im doing this mostly for my nephews, so I can be the cool uncle who gives them the best gifts. It's more fun watching them rip into boxes than anything, I'm sure one day they will get a 1/1 black prizm or something tho and Ill be just watching and still having a house payment. One of my nephew's is into pokemon not sports cards, so I sent him a few packs and he pulled a freaking Charizard. He is now the coolest kid in his group.
Also if your just down for making a quick buck, right now you can usually flip these boxes on eBay for a few times more than retail. So if you ever come across retail prices just buy them out. Hobby boxes are the most expensive and most valuable, but they have the best odds of getting the good stuff and guaranteed autographs. Blaster boxes are next level down and hangers are the last.
Shits getting real!!!! https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/05/13/business/pokemon-sports-cards-trading-trnd/index.html
you guys made me look up my old ass ones and i have rookie kobe and brady cards, the kobe is all bent up though
During the pandemic I got into collecting Pokemon cards with my 8 year old because he doesn't really care about sports cards (yet?) but I still wanted to share in the card collecting hobby with him. How awful is it that you can't just go into a store and buy a pack or two every once in awhile? As the year went on they became harder and harder to find but occasionally I'd get lucky online or at a random Game Stop or whatever. Since Christmas however I haven't seen a single pack in a store. The section is always picked over immediately. There is a Fred Meyer by my house that has one of the machines but 99% of the time it is broken or empty and it's often several weeks in between them filling it. The last few times they've filled it I've gotten excited to see a box or a pack I want and then I go to buy it and it says it's out of stock even though I can fucking see it right there. So far the hobby has been mostly just frustration and wasted effort trying to locate them.
eBay, you pay a little more but it's still worth it usually. Look for unopened factory sealed boxes, individual packs or specific cards with the buy it now option.
I'm not going to reward the very people who buy out the stores and are the reason stores don't sell them anymore.
Its just supply and demand economics at work. Capitalism at it's finest! I think of it as the fee for not camping out at Walmart overnight.
I went thru a chunk of my cards with my daughters yesterday. We made a fun evening of it. Found so much random stuff I didn’t remember having. Beyond the mounds of Blazers and unopened Franz cards.... I had sour patch kids cards, more MJ and Griffey’s than I recall having, some unopened Starting Lineup figures, Tombstone pizza baseball cards, some various minor league brands and collegiate productions (for baseball and basketball). Lotta small amounts of random odds and ends that are 30+ years old. So much of it has been touched once and put away.
