IMO, it's kinda of a big deal...Britton might be our most consistent reliever.

Yankees relief pitcher Zack Britton heads back to New York for elbow surgery after MRI showed bone chip

TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees left-handed reliever Zack Britton underwent an MRI that showed a bone chip in his left elbow. It will need to be removed surgically, the club announced Tuesday afternoon. Britton likely will miss the first few months of the 2021 season.
Britton will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove the bone chip, which is expected to be performed by Dr. Christopher Ahmad at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
After completing a bullpen session Sunday, Britton complained of soreness in his pitching elbow and underwent tests Monday that revealed the bone chip.

According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Britton will travel back to New York for surgery, after which the team will offer an updated timeline. When infielder Gio Urshela underwent surgery to remove a bone chip from his right elbow in early December, the Yankees announced that his anticipated recovery time would be three months.
"As far as timetables and stuff like that, we'll have more in the coming day or two," Boone said after Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
Not long after Boone's announcement, Britton posted a reaction on social media.
"I appreciate the support from everyone. We all have daily challenges we have to overcome in order to reach our goals," he tweeted. "Just have to keep pushing ahead! I will get this taken care of during the upcoming week and be back as soon as I can."
Britton, who is entering the third season of a $52 million, four-year contract with the Yankees, revealed recently that he contracted COVID-19 in January. His spring debut had been delayed while he built his strength.
A two-time All-Star, Britton, 33, went 1-2 with a 1.89 ERA and eight saves in 20 appearances during the shortened 2020 season. He was the Yankees' closer when Aroldis Chapman was recovering from COVID-19.

I agree Ron. That's tough news on Britton. But atleast it's happening now and they get him back this season.

    Ahhh, OK...lol.

No, I have no idea who those players were. Saw the LHed pitcher trying to throw to 1B was Britton and thought the player that ran into him was some kid from the farm.

Sorry to hear about Andujar's injury...and speaking of our 3Bmen, Urshela is also having horrible Spring so far...hope it's only an anomaly.

Now that the Yanx have invested $6.35 Million in Sancheeto, he has to have a defining stellar year. If not sayonara sanchino!

Imo- stellar for Sanchez would be:
Being in the top 5 for Catching Defense (all aspects of D) and not the worst for passed balls!

    A .300 B'avg. (Extremely unlikely to happen)
Fk the HRs, give me RBIs and B'avg. Damn the torpedoes.

Cut the fkng strikeouts out, not down, OUT!

Place a Sports Shrink in the Clubhouse.
Give him a *reward system for doing well, i..e. Extra Pepsi and Tacos post game.
*(from the Fernando Valenzuela school of sports psychiatry)

Then again, I gotta feeling Trashman would give him a raise at year end even if he continues with maximum suckage, just to avoid Arbitration in 2022. Even though Arbitration would favor the Yanx, unless Sanchez justifies a record consummation of carnitas and cola.

Honestly I'm done with the Sanchez experiment. I'm tired of the yearly Sanchez hype how his off-season work will improve and redefine him... while in reality Sanchez has found every way possible to disappoint.
Yet- Yankee Fans endure in the hope Sanchez just might wake the fk up and be the Monster at and behind the plate, which we were told he could/would be. At this point I wish him well. Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst?

Luke Voit has a torn meniscus and will have surgery and will begin the regular season on the IL,,,Jay Bruce will take his place.

New York Yankees 1B Luke Voit going on IL with partial tear in meniscus

TAMPA, Fla. -- Major league home run champion Luke Voit needs knee surgery to repair a partial meniscus tear, an injury that opened a New York Yankees roster spot for Jay Bruce on Saturday as a first baseman.

Voit will not have any baseball activities for three weeks after the operation on his left knee, manager Aaron Boone said. Voit is expected back in May.

"Let's have the surgery, see how the early days are, and then we will be able to evaluate," Boone said.

The injury to Voit, who hit 22 homers in the pandemic-shortened season to lead the majors, played a role in the decision to add Bruce, who attended spring training with a minor league contract.

"We're going to be missing Luke, but I know Jay Bruce is going to come in and do some special things for us," Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge said. "Luke is a big part of this team, big part of this offense. He's a really vocal guy in the clubhouse who gets us motivated. I'm excited to have Jay Bruce on this team. This is why he came to this team, was to help any way he can and help us win a championship."

Voit had an MRI exam on Friday, which led to discussions that night on whether the slugger would go through a treatment program and try to play through it or have surgery and start the season on the injured list.

"Decided to go in and have that cleaned up," Boone said. "Functionally he was playing, but was still dealing with some swelling in there after games and things like that. Felt like calendar-wise it was best to get this taken care of with hopefully putting it behind him for the bulk of the season."

Bruce, who turns 34 next Saturday, has played 1,510 major league games in the outfield and 54 at first base, including two last season.

"It was part of the equation," Boone said. "So Jay is with us. I expect him to play a lot and a lot of first base for us. Excited to see what he can do for us."

Bruce gets a contract paying $1.35 million while in the major leagues and $150,000 should he be assigned to the minors.

"I was waiting on the Yankees to let me know," said Bruce, who was informed about the decision early Saturday morning. "Clearly this is where I wanted to be. This is why I signed here. I'm extremely excited."

Bruce is hitting .194 with two homers and three RBIs in 31 at-bats during spring training.

Boone said Mike Tauchman, who is out of minor league options, is set to be an extra outfielder.

Bruce is a rare left-handed bat on the heavily right-handed Yankees. In their projected batting order, switch-hitting center fielder Aaron Hicks is joined by eight right-handed hitters. Lefty-hitting outfielder Brett Gardner, projected as a reserve behind Clint Frazier, also figures to get significant playing time.

Bruce hit .198 with six homers and 14 RBIs in 96 at-bats for Philadelphia during the pandemic-shortened season. He is a three-time All-Star with a .245 average, 318 home runs and 948 RBIs during 13 big league seasons with Cincinnati (2008-15), the New York Mets (2016-18), Cleveland (2018), Seattle (2019) and the Phillies.

Mike Ford, considered the front-runner to back up Voit when spring training started, went 4-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's 5-1, eight-inning win over Toronto. Ford was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on March 19.

Gleyber Torres was 3-for-3 with a pair of homers, giving him five overall.

New York released infielder Derek Dietrich and injured catcher Robinson Chirinos from minor league contracts. Releasing them does not preclude the Yankees from re-signing them.

Right-hander Clarke Schmidt was placed on the 60-day injured list with an elbow strain, opening a spot for Bruce on the 40-man roster.
