He’d either pout or wake up. I think the team is tougher (and better) without Nurkics inconsistent play. When he’s good, he’s really helpful. It’s just so unpredictable. He’s not tough. I can’t believe Chauncey Billups/Detroit Piston can stand it too much longer.
there is that. Billups played with Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn, John Salley, and James Edwards, not to mention Rodman. How many of those guys played as soft as Nurk?
I understand but sometimes I had to tell them i was joking because they thought i was being serious and they took it personal i guess? Helps that I'm staying away from the OT section. That place can get a little toxic.
Yep. That's my take right there. I'm not sure but i think i even saw it on his face at one point when Nurk was playing. It was just a flash while he was standing on the sidelines. An expression that might not have been Nurk at all but it was there. I have felt that expression many times watching Nurkic. Time will tell.
Well, actually, it is not One. Game. We saw the promise, the hope, of Sharpe in the preseason. However, that was preseason and you don't know if that will actually translate to reality. What we saw was that the hope, the dream, we saw in preseason looks to have a foot in reality. That being said, it was only One. Game. Small Sample Size Alert! Still, there were quite a few who were unsure of Sharpe when we drafted him, had hope when they saw him in preseason, and now have more reality-based hope seeing a good performance in a real game. We know the jump-the-gunner's abound. They often congratulate themselves with the see-I-told-yous while simultaneously ignoring the oops-I-was-an-idiot situations. If we see continued good and improving production 20-30 games into the season, the "Start Sharpe" may have real merit but now, not so much.
nice post! I recall Chauncey saying during Rim Shaedy's Portland work-out that they had him go against players that were rough and intimidating to Check Rim Shaedy's composure and how it would affect his play. Coach mention he wasnt bothered at all and performed well.
Nurk doesn't get up and down the floor, get off his feet as quickly or shoot the face-up from 15-17 nearly as well as either of them. They were more traditional posts, a notch below the elites, but, if you watch footage of them, you'll see they weren't really plodders, either. Lanier, in particular, was just so consistent. 51% from the field and 77% from the line, averaging a double-double for his career and 33.5 minutes per game. If Nurk was that guy who was a powerhouse around the basket, though, I wouldn't have an issue. The problem is Nurk doesn't go strong to the hoop and misses too many makeable shots without drawing the foul or being in position to rebound his own miss. Too many, flailing, off-balance attempts.
Obviously I wouldn't start Shaedon next game. That being said, I'd give him more minutes and tell his teammates to get him even more involved in the offense when he's in. I would just keep building him up like that until he either proves that he's not ready or that he's the best guy for us to start at SF. I honestly think that by the trade deadline Sharpe could be the starter and that should make some trades obvious.
We are noticeably worse in terms of rebounding, interior defense, and pick n roll play if we bench Nurkic for Sharpe. Nurkic sets some of the best screens in the league which help free guys like Dame and Ant. His finishing has improved the past year and a half. Yeah, it'd be nice for him to be more consistent, but most starting bigs in the league are inconsistent.
I think it will come. Maybe let the Lillard/Simons backcourt brew a bit? Hart/Grant seems like it worked. I'm in the school of let him come off the bench for now.
