I think CJ needs to get 30 minutes a game. If they wanna play Henderson me that means Hendos playing some 3, but we have Crabbe and Harkless there. So I think CJ instead will play some backup PG.
I agree with you, CJ deserves 30 mpg. Reason, CJ played hero ball during the playoffs. However, after looking at the off-season moves, where do the minutes come from? I have never been a fan of CJ playing BUPG. With both Frazier and Pressey on the roster, it appears Olshey & Stotts are also not convinced CJ can play BUPG. CJ can score at BUPG, but the other 4 Blazers on the floor go into a tailspin. CJ can NOT run the point. I do not see any evidence that he will ever develop basic PG skills. CJ is a scoring guard. CJ & Henderson will be competing for the same minutes, until someone gets traded. Playing Hendo at SF makes more sense than playing CJ at BUPG, if the goal is to win the game.
I'm not so sure CJ would be bad at backup PG I think we should start the season like this Lillard (36) / CJ (12) Henderson (25) / CJ (18) / Crabbe (5) Aminu (28) / Crabbe (10) / Harkless (10) Leonard (30) / Vonleh (15) / Davis (3) Plumlee (27) / Davis (21) Lillard 36, CJ 30, Leonard 30, Aminu 28, Plumlee 27, Henderson 25, Davis 24, Crabbe 15, Vonleh 15, Harkless 10 If CJ struggles at backup PG to start the season then you give him more minutes at SG
I am not convince on giving Myers 30 min do to the fact that he still hasn't establish his self yet. Yes I see improvement but not to the point that he deserve 30 mins. Maybe I would switch the min with Davis because he will be our best rim protecter.
When you compare CJ, Frazier & Pressey, CJ is the much better scorer. However, when you compare PG skills for the three, both Frazier and Pressey average three times as many assists than CJ, NBA minutes played adjusted. Here are the assists stats from last season, adjusted to 48 minutes played. Frasier 12.1 Pressey 9.4 Blake 9 Dame 8.3 Battum 6.9 Wes 3.3 CJ 3.2
Davis will never be much more than he is, while Meyers has lots of potential. You give the young buck a chance to establish himself as a big time NBA player.
As if assists are the only thing that matters? Hell get the ball up the court, make the first pass into the offense, and when he gets the ball he'll attack. He'll be the Lillard of the 2nd unit with a little less vision. We don't need someone running around with the ball until he finds a passing lane.
And this is where CJ will get his PG minutes that Stotts and Olshey all but promised. It may not work out and if Stotts is good he will adjust, but bank on CJ playing some PG at the beginning of the season.
I don't think playing time in a developmental year is necessarily based on 'deserved' or 'earned'. Meyers needs the minutes. He should get them. Paradoxically, Vonleh may not be ready for those minutes, and I'd give some of his minutes to Davis.
dame (35)/cj (10)/ pressey (3) hendo (26)/ cj (18)/ crabbe (4) aminu (26)/ crabbe (12)/ harkless (10) meyers (28)/ davis (10)/ vonleh (10) plumlee (28)/ davis (18)/ kaman (2) i think that our starters will surprise teams since we will be gunning teams. our bench will be very good in my opinion.
