Well we cannot offer Jabari a deal anyway. He’s not joining anybody for MLE, let alone taxpayer’s MLE and we have nothing to offer Bucks in a sign-and-trade (no, they are not taking Aminu, Leonard and Swanigan plus a second round pick).
Given Parker's history of serious knee injuries, there is a disconnect between his perceived value and his actual value. If the Bucks get any kind of reasonable s&t offer, they should jump on it.
They would still be better letting him go and freeing up the cap space than trading him for bad contracts and average players.
The only thing I can think of is that Stotts likes different guys who can run a pick and roll. Stauskas can do that a little and I don't think Pat could.
I'd be interested to see how many options Stauskas had left...i.e., if he would've signed a 2yr vet min, or (since we seem to be breaking up our MLE with Curry) taking a 3yr barely-over-minimum out of the MLE account with a couple of non-guaranteed years. There's a chance, assuming he maintains his shooting skill, that he follows the career path of Korver and Redick. I invite you to take a look at their first 6 or so years in the league.
Maybe you weren't watching a ton of ORL Redick, but the dude barely got off the bench in his first 3 years and didn't do much when he did.
Redick still wasn't awful inside the arc, and was more productive than Stauskas offensively. Redick was just a much more talented player that didn't have consistent minutes to produce. Stauskas just has no talent. He's below-average to horrible in every area of the game except 3pt shooting.
Anyone who doesn't think this is a horrible signing, find another area (other than 3pt shooting) where Stauskas isn't bad, and a stat to back it up.
It's not that I don't think it's a horrible signing. It's that I think he's better than Jake Layman & the Baseball player.
Through age 24 season... You think spending a vet min contract on a former lotto pick with a skillset (and frankly, athletic type) that has a history of taking a while to develop, but has staying power, to be the 15th man on the bench until he proves something is horrible? Again, we kept Luis Montero on the roster for a year. We've given Sasha Pavlovic and Victor Claver and Jake Layman run. Horrible? Now, should that have been the "midnight Day 1" move? Nope. Does it suck that that's our 2nd-best upgrade in FA, behind a guy who was injured all last year? Yup. Do I think Olshey sux? Yup. Do I think a vet-min signing rates a horrible grade? Nope.
You're right - not horrible. But also not very promising. In looking at the advanced stats - Korver, Redick, & Stauskas are very similar except in 2 very important areas. 1) Stauskas' TS% is significantly lower. 2) Stauskas' WS/48, BMP, VORP, & ORTG-DRTG are all significantly lower. This is likely due to the defensive end of the game... apparently he just isn't the lock down defender that Redick or Korver are. Just because Layman, Claver, & Montero were on a roster doesn't mean that they every should have been.
