If it's worth quoting numbers, it's probably best to make them up.

I think he's worth the cap hit of his contract. I don't think e's worth what an owner will have to pay next season, though.

You have a team with one of the best records in the league and everyone is buying in to what the coaching staff is selling. I would not send assets out with a high risk of ruining the good thing we have going.

Did you compare Asik to Mutombo? A top3 NBA center? Howard, Gasol, Hibbert, Horford, Noah, Davis, Chandler, B Lopez, Cousins, Drummond, Bogut, Sanders are all vastly superior to him. My gosh some fans have an insane hard-ons for this guy. He is a role player. Chicago was happy to let him walk at $8 million and they have zero interest in bringing him back. Asik is worthless on offense, a free throw liability at the end of games. He would be a backup on most contending teams.

Given the start this team has had and if Olshey told PA that Asik might get us over the top I have no doubt PA would write that check next yr, hell it's only ONE yr at 15 mil and if Asik played like he did last year he's worth close to 10 mil, look what SA gave to Splitter

When theres 12 players at your position vastly superior to you your no better than average. There isn't any team in the league where he would be worth $15 million next year.

None of those players are available. I'm not really a huge fan of Asik, but I still think you're underselling him.

PA might very well pay it, I was just saying I don't know if he is worth 15 a year.

PER mostly measures offense. Defensively he's not average for his position and that increases his value.

he's not, but he and his contract fit the "2-yr window" and he only gets that for one yr, with what he is paid this he it's probably a fair contract, maybe modestly overpaid based upon last seasons production and defense.

His defense AND his rebounding are not average.

    +1

Assuming you could get Asik for spare parts, how would this work? If you have him backup RoLo then Asik will get pissy. If you have him start, you still have to pull him at the end of games because of FT shooting (although he has improved a bit this year) and who knows what it would do to excellent team chemistry. I would love to have Asik in and have him get Freeland minutes, but that isn't going to work.

That's the rub, AND you can't play either of them at power forward. At least with someone like Frye or Hawes, you could probably play them next to Lopez and Aldridge.

Asik is the similar competency but the complete opposite of JJ Hickson. Hickson had a PER of 20 but zero defense. Asik has great defense but horrific offense. Could he have a valuable role as rotational player? Yes. Is he someone you build a team around? No. Does he start over most options already on contending teams? No.

If Asik wouldn't mind being back up, he's fine. And maybe he could work into the starting line-up. Lopez is a 28 minute player. Asik could be another 28 minute player, switching minutes per game. Basically, both sharing the same amount of production.

What bites the hole in my ass is that he didn't even give Houston a chance and demanded a trade immediately. That means he doesn't feel like he has to earn minutes, but rather entitled. I said this in the other thread. I could see a Damon moping and publicly complaining about lack of 4th quarter production, etc.

Suppose we live in a magical christmas world where we gave up only Leonard and Freeland...

"LaMarcus, you know Omer Asik" grins Olshey who's sporting a Christmas tie. A solemn Aldridge shakes Asik's hand. "He and Robin will insure that you never play a minute of Center this year or in the near future!" Aldridge embraces a large grin and says to Asik "Let me show you around, you'll like it here!"

That would be a nice move for Charlotte. A starting 5 of Walker, Henderson, MKG, Jefferson and Asik would be very tough to deal with. Asik would complement Jefferson really well.
