I think dviss1 is right. It is a cultural thing here, and coming from where he does, he said something that was offensive. He had zero racist intent. When it was explained to him, he apologized.

    Time to move on.

    Here's the kicker:

Nobody chastised him for it. They only educated him that it could be taken the wrong way even though it wasn't meant to be racist at all.

The only people who were chastised were these Keystone esque PC police.

Did you read an original or an edited to be politically correct version? Hitler read the original, he was simply trying to speed up survival of the fittest.

Hitler did not speed up evolution. Nothing in Darwin led to Hitler, quite the opposite. According to historians, there is no evidence at all that Hitler even read Darwin, understood the concept of evolution by natural selection, or used evolution as justification for genocide. The Center for Science Education has documented this false rumor extensively. Darwin's books were banned and burned in Nazi Germany.

I have no idea what the "politically correct version" of Darwin's books are. I read two different editions of Origin of Species. Those words were not there. Darwin was an upper class Victorian white Englishman, and like everyone a product of his times. Some of his comments, especially in Voyage of the Beagle, are cringe-worthy by today's standards. But the fact that he had prejudices of his time and class does not invalidate his scientific work. If you say it does, you are being exactly what you accuse others of, "PC police"; Darwin held racial views, therefore all his work is wrong.

Oh, yes, you have not answered my question. In what chapter in what book did Darwin make the supposed remarks about Blacks and Jews? Where did he say "our great grandpas" were apes? Do you understand what "race" means in evolutionary terms and that it is totally not what the term means in sociology?

It's real easy to invent "PC police". Answer the question. Did you read the books? Where are those supposed remarks?

Several factors dictate this emphasis on Darwinian racism. First, Darwinist racism explicitly motivated Hitler and many other leading perpetrators of the Holocaust. Second, Darwin inspired the researchers, most notably in biology and anthropology, who gave racism its aura of scientific certainty. Third, Darwinian thought may well have been more popular in Germany than anywhere else during these years, in part because Germany was the world’s leading center of biological research before World War I and the Germans were exceptionally literate. Finally, Darwinist racism was the brand of racism most easily understood by the widest number of people, in part because Darwin’s theory was astonishingly simple and easy to explain.

I have just always loved that liberals claim to not be racist but also like to shit on religion and worship a racist scietific theory while claiming god is an ass hole. The pure irony to me is incredible.

My niece posts roughly 50 photos a day on Fakebook of her "little monkey" as she adoringly calls him. He's about 3 weeks old and a Ginger.

So far there has been no public shaming or outrage or unfriending by anyone.

Ah, sheed fan, determined not to answer questions. I never said god is an asshole. I never mentioned god at all in this thread. And no one "worships" evolution, no more than anyone "worships" gravity. Nor can you find anyone who says they "worship" evolution. People accept evolution, and gravity, and relativity, among others, because they are scientific theories that factually describe the world and have been upheld in test after test. If another theory were to explain the world/universe better it could be accepted. That is how science works. (Yes, I know there are occasional cheats and booboos because it is a human endeavor and humans are fallible.)

But better to make more shit up than to admit you made shit up, right? That you never read Origin of Species and your so called quotes come from some creationist web site? You think I haven't heard all the creationist fake quotes before? Come on, dude, be a man, stand up for what you say. Cite the sections of Origin that contain the racist references. Cite the historical reference to a link between science and Hitler (who was notoriously anti-science). Cite the evidence that evolution, which proves the commonality of all humans, is "racist". Come on, show your stuff. Where in Origin are those citations you claim exist?

I have two copies of Origin of Species. One was published by MacMillan Press in the 1970s. The introduction and footnotes are by one of MacMillan's editors. As the term "politically correct" had not yet been invented, this could not be the "politically correct" version. The other is a large volume from 2003 containing in full four of Darwin's books, Voyage of the Beagle, Origin of Species, Descent of Man, and Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals. You notice they did not substitute gender neutral word like "person" for "man" so I guess it's not the "politically correct" version either. The introduction and annotations are by James Watson. No one in their right or even wrong mind would call Watson "PC Police". Watson has been criticized for his racist and misogynist comments but got some comeuppance when he publicly ran his own DNA and the world, including himself, learned he has a significant amount of sub-Saharan African DNA.

In neither version of Origin are there any such comments about Jews or what would then have been called "Negroes". And no biologist would say anything about great grandpa being an ape, except perhaps as a joke at a convivial gathering. In fact, I am 99.99999% certain there is no "politically correct" version of Origin in existence. Darwin, obviously, wrote in English so there are not competing translations; different editions merely have different introductions or footnotes. I am equally certain that Sheed Fan never read Origin.

This discussion started over Adams apologizing for a gaffe. It could have ended quickly and humorously with animal analogies, had it not been for white male resentment that a person actually apologized for a mistake. Then they had to drag in everyone else they loathe; transgender people, and now science.

    Blew my freaking mind!!!

I'm sure it's just a matter of preference or based on the church you grew up in. I've seen people look to the sky when they pray. And I guess if you look at other cultures bowing is a sign of respect. Still though top notch stuff River.

Wow, just noticed this. There is so much fucked up about this that it requires a numbered list.
    1. Presumably you are just as disgusted by all forms of plastic surgery and write angry posts about Kim Kardashian. Wouldn't want to be hypocritical.
    2. Also tattoos. Also surgery of any kind. It's against nature, after all, as nature has clearly decided that you should be blind/die of appendicitis, etc. and why be so arrogant as to go against nature?
    3. "Will never be biologically"? What the fuck does that mean? Do you mean that transgender people will never be a certain "biological sex"?
First of all, you need to say what that requires. For all you know in ten years they'll be capable of uterus/gonad transplants. Would that solve your issue? Or are we resting on some notion of "what God intended"?
Secondly, you probably need to do some research on intersexuality. Be careful though - you seem to be super sensitive and you might find yourself being "disgusted". But we'll be here for you. You'll find that "biological sex" is kind of a rich tapestry and not the simple binary you probably thought it was.
    4. "Mentally sick" You mean, like they said homosexuals were? Until all the so-called experts on the "psychological disorder" of homosexuality were epically debunked by Evelyn Hooker. Maybe you in fact suffer from the mental disorder of "Transphobia". Perhaps you should seek treatment. Be warned, though that there are unenlightened people out there who will find you disgusting. You just have to love yourself for yourself and get through it.
    5. "Political Agendas". What would those be? Their secret conspiracy to make everyone transgender? Give in! Better accept it now so you don't have to go into the dreaded internment camps when their plan comes to its sinister fruition.
