If even average NBA veterans were playing in front of the rookies, I'd agree.

Playing old scrubs in front of young scrubs is a dumb move for a team that isn't going to make the playoffs, IMO.

Nobody on the bench outside of Leonard has a PER above 9. It's not like we're talking about sitting Kevin McHale in his prime as a 6th Man over some rookies.

Jeffries has a PER of 3.1, ffs. Who are these clearly superior bench players that should be playing over Leonard and Barton?

Because obviously PER shows you every contribution a player makes on the court.

PER this month for the bench (7 games)
    Leonard 2.48 (6 games)
    Babiitt 10.55
    Barton 11.11
    Claver 6.46
    Freeland 31.41 (3 games)
    Jeffries 3.67 (3 games)
    Smith 22.10
Pavlovic and Price only played once

Maybe he was and has been playing the right guys ?

PER does not measure defense either. Nor saying these are the tell all stats, but they tell something?

It quantifies things more than the 'intangible' argument. The bench scores 11 points or whatever last night, and suddenly the veteran scrubs are the answer.

Looks to me like Freeland should be getting some more minutes. I do find it very odd that some of the same people who pulled the "Nate doesn't play rookies" card now are defending Stotts playing a bunch of horseshit veterans who have never had approached a successful NBA career over players who at least have a chance at being a part of the future.

I never understood the whole Nate doesn't play rookies thing. I hated Nate, but not playing rookies was never a reason. Seems to me he played them as much or more than any coach would

Agreed, I showed fairly often how many rookies he did in act play. Nate, like most any coach, didn't play BAD rookies.

Thing is, this team still might make the playoffs. If they throw in the towel now, I'll be furious.

The veterans on the bench are awesome.

    The best in the league.

    My bad. Carry on.

How is playing younger players with better statistics "throwing in the towel"? If I'm going to watch a terrible bench lose games, it may as well be a young terrible bench with players that may actually have a future as being at least average NBA players, unlike the current bunch of veteran misfits.

I'm going through the the tape to find those awesome boxing out stats.

Jeffries' per/36 rebounding of 6.8 is something all great boxing out players should strive for, as well as his 5.9 fouls/36.

He's a real Sixth Man of the Year candidate. You can't sit that kind of player for a guy 10 years younger than him.

In defense of all of the bench, it's hard to be consistent when you don't know if and when you're going to play.

It's like Stotts just pulls names out of a hat each game and those are the guys in the rotation that night.

How do two players go from playing the most minutes off the bench to not playing at all tonight?

    Baffling...
