To me the problem last year besides injuries to our better defenders was having to use 19 different starting lineups trying to find someone who could make a shot and defend well enough to stay on the court....was a rough year on that side of the ball
well, the changed defense gave up 52% FG's, 41% three's, and 39 assists tonight maybe they should change back
we played like cold dogshit tonight on both sides of the court...was a butt ugly Blazer game...Dame had a terrible game as well...just a clank fest
You really thought they were going to effectively implement a completely new defense in a couple days?
To be fair, Stotts said "we'll still have multiple coverages... but our primary coverage will be more aggressive." Doesn't sound like he's implementing a wholesale change by any means. In the past, many have said being more aggressive wouldn't be that hard to do.
So you just pulled a random quote from nowhere without any context behind it... They also ran drop coverage at least 95% of the time last year, they didnt really run "multiple coverages" and the base scheme they've ran this preseason they didnt run last year.
That quote from Stotts saying they will continue to run mutliple coverages is in this thread and you were the one who posted it, how is that out of context?
I'm referring to the " In the past, many have said being more aggressive wouldn't be that hard to do.". As far as the Stotts thing, we didnt run multiple schemes last season. We ran drop scheme constantly.
It was definitely a problem, and a problem we couldnt control. What we could control was how we responded to that and what we did defenisively.
Not with this tbh. The defensive philosophy this year is exactly what we needed for years If he sticks with it, it'll be a good thing in the long run, even though there will be some growing pains and some fans will get impatient.
To be fair to Stotts, let's all rewind for the past few years and remember the centers we've been playing. A much heavier Nurkic, then an often injured Nurkic, Whiteside, Kanter, Leonard....it's not like he's had a lot of mobile centers to work with. (Nurkic when healthy is surprisingly nimble though.) Dropping back was really our best option, sadly. And to be fair to management, Olshey has had to do a lot of bargain bin shopping. Non-mobile big men have been available, so he took what he could get. (The Meyers contract is entirely on him though, and is one of the reasons he was force to bargain bin shop.) All that said, I'm glad we've moved on to a more modern defensive system. It was always painful to watch us run the same defensive scheme that Dame loved exploiting the most on the other end. I think the big adjustment will be for Dame and CJ. Those guys have never played any differently in the NBA, and they've got a ton of miles in the old system. Luckily, they are also our two smartest players so it shouldn't be that hard for them to adjust. But it will force them to break habits. The one round peg among the square holes is Kanter. He's a nice guy for us to have situationally against Jokic and maybe Embiid, but if he can't carry his weight (figuratively and literally) in the new system, he'll get consigned to 9th or 10th man like he often was in Boston. He may not be thrilled, but it's the new reality for guys of his type. He's a good locker guy and seems smart, so I don't think it'll be a big issue. In the new system I think it'll often be a battle between Giles and Collins for backup center minutes on most nights.
Bro I saw zero difference. I'm so fucking tired to see our opponent hit 3 after 3 after 3 against us.
nah.....I think Stotts is a good coach...you can disagree...I'm used to it. He's a coach I can cheer for....I like loyalty in the front office. Not a fan of the revolving coaching door that people scream for after a couple losses...see the Knicks
We were playing in Denver - we've looked bad there more often than any other road venue (possible exception of SLC).
Yeah, his Raiders... I don't think Dame is trippin over a "preseason game" which if I'm not mistaken was like the eighth day of training camp.
Applies to his own team last year, his football team this year, and hopefully not his own team this year. (Remains to be seen)
