Stotts just gave one of the worst answers I’ve ever heard in a postgame.

I don't think our bigs were sagging that much off except for Kanter. Maybe he was just having a brain fart since he has no food? Collins would sag but not below the free throw line like Kanter was doing--I think Kanter was just tired.

Less than 48 hours? It's not like they didn't know well ahead of time if they won Game 7 they would play the Warriors. They have scouts who go ahead and make game plans well ahead of time as well for whomever they would play. Poor excuse.

    No, it was Collins too.

And if the guy has a brain fart 10 times in one game leading to their best players going off and Stotts doesnt make a sub, then thats on him as well.

In addition to what TBpup said, how do you get less than 48 hours? Noon Sunday (3pm end of game) to 6pm Tuesday is more than 48 hours. Of course, if they couldn't find time to practice Monday or have a pre-game shoot around Tuesday, they probably needed a full month to come up with a better Game 1 strategy.

I disagree with your premise, ie that Stotts is saying that he's not going to adjust. He's saying STFU.

Sarcasm is the correct response to an insulting question, as if Stotts isn't aware of what Houston employed or how ineffective our game plan ended up being. He has coached us to the WCF.

What was so insulting about that question? The response was unnecessary-- Stotts even apologized yesterday to that reporter. Terry always reacts like this when there is even a hint of criticism his way.

One of the changes Olshey has brought to the franchise. Seems like an over-reaction to all the years the team let the press bully them. I understand in general, but Stotts wasn't part of all that and this was not a good look for him.

The question wasn't insulting. Slater brought up how Houston defended Golden State as part of the reasoning for asking the question about Stotts' strategy--we all (Stotts included) just saw a generally more effective defense played against Curry and Stotts employed a far worse one...one that you can reason would be worse even before you try it and one that Stotts didn't abandon the entire game. It's perfectly reasonable to point out what Houston did as part of the question asking Stotts to clarify why he chose the strategy he did.

I'm sorry but I don't know either personally. I'll tell you this though, both of them had more success in their careers than Terry did before he was hired by the Blazers.

Because they aren't still coaching does that mean they were wrong?

"Sarcasm is the correct response to an insulting question, as if Stotts isn't aware of what Houston employed or how ineffective our game plan ended up being."

It insults his intelligence and his preparedness. I am not saying I'm in favor of how we defended Steph or how we defend in general--I actually am not. At all--I'm saying Stotts is purposely making decisions, based on what he sees as the variables, whether or not we agree with the reasons. It is easy to judge outcomes.

If you watch the full press conference (not saying you didn't) this is the 3rd question. The one right before this Dwight Jaynes asks him a general question about the pick and roll defense on Curry and Thompson and Stotts rolls his eyes before giving a pissy answer. It's perfectly legitimate to ask why a coach would leave the best shooter of all-time wide open most of the game. It's not the reporters fault the coach is stupid.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Good article from The Ringer. This was the money paragraph to me, with a Turner quote that maybe has been posted here but I hadn't seen it before:

“We let our stars get doubled, and let any other star go olly olly oxen free,” Evan Turner said after the loss. “It’s hard enough to get them to switch the pick-and-roll defense. That’s something I’ve been questioning for three years.” The Blazers’ dropping on Curry goes back further than Turner’s tenure with the team. Here’s Portland in 2014—note Andrew Bogut, former and current Warrior, immobilizing Lillard on a pick that leads to a wide-open 3 for Steph:

Does it mean they were right? Houston doubled Steph and he dropped 33 in a half

Hey Steph can get hot, the whole world knows that, who knows maybe their isn't anything they can do about it, but they probably should at least try some different things and see if any of them can work a bit better. :)
