Ahhhh. Okay. Now I see why you're so upset. You didn't like the Randolph deal (which I knew), but you're connecting this to that deal due to the claim that we'd have cap space thanks to that deal. So this all goes back to the Randolph deal. Well, I actually didn't like the Randolph deal, either, and never really believed that the cap space would materialize into much (since it rarely does). I actually thought I might end up wrong due to the confluence of cap space and a bad economy, but I'm back to not being very optimistic about that. Still, I think Pritchard can get something useful in trade...not using cap space as the only value, but combining cap space with a useful player or two and maybe a draft pick. Anyway, I actually agree with you in a limited sense on the Randolph deal, but bear in mind that the main benefit of it wasn't Frye or cap space but Rudy Fernandez.
The main benefit was getting rid of a black hole/locker room cancer. Last I saw the guy coldcocked a player in the face as his crappy team was losing by 40 to the Suns.
Paul Milsap, Carlos Boozer, Shawn Marion, Kobe, Iverson, Artest, Odom, Hedo, Ariza, Rasheed, JKidd, Andre Miller, Mike Bibby, CV3, Marvin Williams, Grant Hill (a worse version of PDX Pippen?) So there are certainly players out there that can help, but I'm not enamored that greatly with any of them. Most of them are former stars who are on the vast decline of their careers. They'll probably want more money than they're currently worth (but are banking on using their name brand to command $$$ for seasons past). Most aren't young and don't fit the "time frame" of the team but some do have a lot of experience and could be a great mentor to our young players. I still think that Batum and Bayless will develop into starting SF/PG eventually, but that may take a couple years too long. We can definitely find an upgrade somewhere. But it might have to be a trade instead of a FA signing.
So is this outburst some sort of repressed anti-KP release that you've been holding on to since Zach was traded?
I don't find it at all coincidental that every team that man plays on has a losing record. Someone once said he was cancerous. Right now I would have to think long and hard about refuting that point.
I like Milsap, Ariza and on a lesser level, Bibby and Andre Miller. Charlie V might be a good backup PF for us.
So take it out on the posters who posted it. I didn't make that promise, btw, and you know that is the case. I was on you instantly after the Z-Bo meltdown because I knew the guy was a turd.
Significantly worse, but interesting comp. However, Pippen was brought in as the last piece to a veteran team. Hill would be too out of phase with the team's window, I think. A "Pippen acquisition" would make sense in 5-6 years, hopefully after the team already has a title or two in the bank and is looking for veteran reinforcements.
I think this summer we'll be looking more at "glue" guys than "impact" guys. guys like Shane Battier (that type of player, not him specifically). Some upgrades in the basketball IQ department to calm the younger players down a bit. someone like Matt Barnes would be pretty nice...
I don't think we'll be making a big FA splash, personally. Now that the dreams of Rjeff or Crash are gone, I'll likely be more in the camp of developing Martell as the starter at the 3 and then fill some of our other needs (handle the point guard position rotation properly and get a backup 4). I like Milsap's game too and think it'll be good to have him as a backup PF, which we do need. some toughness down low at that position.
6 Million for a backup to one of our stars = BAD. I think he'd get better offers anyways. He deserves to start.
well, the same would be for David Lee, wouldn't it? I think Lee would probably get higher offers as well.
