On the other hand a large number of potential assists were lost due to missed shots by scrubs that Jerryd would never have to pass to in the NBA. I think it evens out, to be honest. I thought he played more like a point guard then he did last year. He will never be Steve Nash, but he might end up being a poor man's Billups. And that would be just fine with me.
He could actually end up being a rich man's Billups considering his quickness and strength. If he gained Billups vision, control of the game and shooting, then Bayless' chiseled physique, explosiveness and jaw dropping vert could take him to a level Billups never saw. But that's him shattering his own ceiling the way Roy did. Of course it was crystal clear Roy had that kind of potential after his first season whereas Bayless has shown only brief flashes. Obviously, Bayless becoming Chauncey 2.0 is unlikely to happen, but it is possible because Bayless has physical gifts Chauncey never dreamed of. Before we can really talk about Billups levels of play Bayless needs to prove he can control a game like the 1st half through 20 NBA minutes. If he can show that this year we could be alot better then most people expect. With his work ethic Bayless could be something special. Then what would the KP haters have?
I watched an interview with KP at the Summer league on NBATV. He looked like he had finally got some sleep and cleaned up, and actually had a smile on his face. That is a big change from the KP I had seen over the last few weeks. He sounded up beat, and said Roy would be a Blazer for many years to come, not to worry.
