Just what I thought. A poor performance against a team with subpar players.
What kills me is that some of you guys actually thought he played well and are supporting his performance.

    From the Article

Howard's debut in a summer-league game at RDV Sportsplex was fairly impressive when he didn't have the ball.

Offensively, Howard struggled mightily, missing 12 of 13 shots and scoring just seven points in the Magic's 89-73 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers
(1-13 against players who are not going to make it in the nba)

Not surprisingly, Howard had first-game jitters. He rushed shots -- throwing up an airball -- and looked mechanical at times.
[IMG] I thought he was suppose to have a more offensive game than Emeka. [IMG]

He entered uncharted waters Tuesday night, matched up against players who had more experience and more muscle -- and these are hardly the NBA's cream of the crop.

Howard finally found himself undersized and being pushed around by Cavs center DeSagana Diop, a 275-pound 7-footer. Diop, 22, came out of high school from Oak Hill Academy three years ago but has yet to find his footing.

Sorry buddy this isn't high school anymore.

By the way he played today, I can definitely agree he is destined for greatness

I would be a little concerned with the fact that Dwight Howard shot 1-13 against weak competition. He did a decent job on the boards and blocking shots but that should be expected in a summer league game.

He needs to actually show SOMETHING on the offensive end.

He actually did show something on the offensive end.
He scored 7 points, actually making one shot.

"He's a heavy guy(Diop, 7ft, 275). One thing I had to realize was that I was a lot of quicker. I didn't use my quickness. I just rushed my shot," Howard said.
"I think I was just rushing, going too fast."-Howard

This game was just begining of the summer leagues.
It wasn't even televised or open to public.
And Dwight didn't do too bad(shined defensively). Like everyone always says "offence will come to him".
But I still expect a dominant preformance from Dwight in the next couple days.

    BTW, Dwight needs a nickname...

    Top pick struggles in opener

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ORLANDO -- Everything about Tuesday night's NBA debut was new to Dwight Howard. Having his jumper swatted back in his face, being pushed around by a heavier foe and facing the questions about a less-than-stellar performance -- all new stuff, indeed, to a player who had previously dominated on the high school level.

    Welcome to the NBA, kid.

Howard's greeting to the NBA proved to be a rude one Tuesday night as he missed 12 of his 13 shots

The 6-foot-11, 240-pound power forward showed off his awesome athleticism in the early going, altering Cleveland's first shot of the game and swatting the second one off the glass. But there weren't many highlights after that as shot after shot of Howard's either rimmed out or missed the iron completely.

Often, he looked mechanical offensively and grew timid in the second half when he missed all seven of his tries. The low point came in the third quarter when Howard rushed a short jumper on the baseline and overshot it by almost 2 feet. </div> [IMG]

What happen to the haughty kid who said he would make an immediate impact as a KG/TD Player? This will definitely humble him down a bit.

If he would of came out and scored 30 you wouldn't said oh it's just summer league. but since he struggled a bit now he is already a bust in your book, give me a break man.

[IMG] I'm gonna guess Enitials is 13 yeards old. Cause only a kid would judge someone's ENTIRE NBA career on ONE Summer League game. [IMG]

Don't hold your breath if you're expecting that to happen every game. He was a little nervous. Nothing wrong with that.

Plus, I'd rather see how good his defensive game was than his offensive. Cause anyone with a brain knows the offensive game will come. I think about 5 people pointed this out. Why? Cause they actually know what they're talking about. [IMG]

Funny how left out all the positive defensive comments.

It's also gonna be funny when Howard is dominating on BOTH ends of the floor instead of just one, like Okafor.

BTW-How'd he do? OH yea, he's gonna be playing the Olympics where he'll get ZERO playing time and will be worn out once the season starts.

Note: TD played in it last year while KG didn't. Guess who won the MVP? THis time it will be R.O.T.Y

I'm done wasting my time with you. You've NEVER had anything pointful to say since you've been posting. Grow up! You got nothing better to do cry over Okafor? The draft was 2 weeks ago!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

So true. But his defense we'd be saying how "great" he was if he scored 30 points. [IMG]

I think we should wait until at least the pre-season games to make a fair assessment on his game.

I'm sure he'll play A LOT better if he had guys like Francis, Mobley, Hill, etc.

I am almost positive that Lebron only scored 12-14 pts in his 1st summer league game without 11 boards and without 4 blocks. Give him a break man. He's gonna be good, support your team. Do you think the people who wanted Dwight would say something like that about Emeka if he had a 1st summer league game like that? I wouldn't, i would be hoping that he can improve. At least Dwight knows what he has to do against the bigger players now and he's not going to want to get pushed around. I wouldn't be surprised if he gained 15-20 more lbs of muscle before the season starts.

Just wait until at least the preseason games to make judgement on him, preferably wait until the season starts.

Yea, I like that too. Someone e-mail Dwight and tell him that's what we're going to be calling him from now on. Or make a huge poster of it in a Magic game. [IMG]

We might have to get approval from D-12 first though. [IMG]
