I got my new Blazers hat for this season a few days ago and will be debuting it in public tomorrow For Media Day. I'm good.
Everybody I know hates Carmelo and that shit-eatin' grin of his, and I'm right there with them. Our boys are gonna have to work a little harder to achieve the same output is all . . . Plus as everybody here has noted, the muffer don't defend worth shit, either.
We may not use the TPE before the start of the season, but it doesn't expire until 7/25/2018. We will have several other opportunities to use it: 12/15/2017 - buyer's remorse day for teams that signed free agents this summer 1/15/2018 - buyer's remorse day for teams that re-signed their own players 2/8/2018 - trade deadline 6/2?/2018 - NBA draft 7/1?/2018 - end or moratrium on signing free agents We probably won't use it on one if the buyer's remorse dates. No sense taking on someone else's mistake, but someone worthwhile may become available at the trade deadline, or leading up to draft night. BNM
We're already over the tax threshold. We might get under at the deadline by doing something like trading Ed Davis and a future 2nd round pick for someone else's future top 55 protected pick. That gets us under the tax threshold for this season, but we will almost certainly be over next year due to Nurk's extension. So, if Paul Allen thinks there is a player available during the draft, or during free agency (other teams will be looking to shed salary to sign free agents), he may decide to go all in on paying the tax. He'll be paying it anyway, it's just a question of how much he's willing to pay. BNM
It's calculated based on the team's payroll on the last day of the regular season. So, we have until February 8, 2018 to get under the threshold via trade. With our 14 guaranteed contract we are a little less than $3 million over the tax threshold. If we keep one of Morrow or Goodwin as our 15th man, we will be about $4.4 million over the threshold. If we keep Briscoe as our 15th man, we will be about $3.8 million over the threshold. After the trade deadline, the only ways left to shed salary are to agree to a buyout with a player, and then waive him, or to waive him and use the stretch provision. BNM
great post, thanks for the reply. My guess is that some of those have nonguarranteed contracts that don't become guaranteed until the trade deadline, so if Neil could find a trade to lose $4 mil, we could get under by waiving the nonguaranteeds.
