<div class="quote_poster">AlleyOop Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Well, that Baron Davis deal turned out to be awesome, IMO, and I'm sure there are many GMs who were too conservative at the time to try it who are now thinking "damn, Mullin got a sweet deal"</div> Were there any contracts that worked with Baron Davis trade without trading anybody else on New Orleans? They were looking for backup guard + expiring near max deal + looking closely at the crop of 2005 guards with Felton/Williams/Paul/Jack. I think maybe the Hornets were thinking ahead despite being so bad that one year. If I'm a franchise in desperate need of rebuilding I go for power forward/center or point guard/shooting guard. They can't be tweeners unless they're the Dirk/Marvin Williams or Dwade/Arenas/Hinrich/Gordon kind. Building around forwards is cool just as long as they're like Lebron James or somebody. I mean Carmelo Anthony sounds nice, but in the long run is he a scorer, or is he a franchise guy that makes everyone around him better, especially defensively? It's like the dilemma we have with Jrich. He's a unique scorer that is consistently putting up Michael Redd/Ray Allen numbers, but what else does he do? But I guess, it's not important because he's cheaper than Marion, Redd, Anthony or any of these other guys that seem lacking in the "making everyone else better" department. Our team needs another cataylst on offense besides Baron Davis. We need a true double team threat that can control the paint, the boards, the shotblock prsesence and interior to exterior passing. Biedrins is close to being that kind of player on defense, but not really on offense. He's been effective when guys like Monta, Baron are getting collapsed on, and the pass goes inside to Biedrins when the center starts to come off Biedrins to stop Baron/Ellis.
