Another massive Supreme Court decision, another huge defeat for the Trump administration. Supreme Court blocks Trump’s bid to end DACA, a win for undocumented ‘Dreamers’
It’s good these clumsy, transparently bigoted policy attempts are being handled by the SCOTUS, but I can’t help but think that the justices are just waiting for better-argued bigotry to support. I’m a pessimist these days.
And who is the decisive 5th vote? John Roberts! As I said in a previous thread, this is just further evidence that he is a fair, excellent even, Chief Justice.
How do our Trump supporters on here feel about this? This president speaks for them and they share his values towards other human beings......they must be very upset.
Congress needs to pass a final solution for this all. DACA was an executive order and a stop gap to come up with a real solution
Not that Republicans were in good shape before, but Trump has managed to destroy what was left of the GOP.
Correct, which is why I can't cheer Roberts. He said flat out it just wasn't done correctly and he would be open to eliminating DACA if presented better.
I saw him post on twitter "anyone get the feeling the supreme court doesnt like me" and it was flooded with responses along the lines of "Ever get the feeling nobody likes you" I've been fairly quiet and reserved on the political front in the last 4 years; but anybody who supports him is fairly blind in their support!
It's been a while since our Constitution genius has won one in Why do I smile whenever I hear or read this?
the fix for this issue being only an executive order that this administration can dissolve was attempted by the republican controlled congress before the democratic house majority of 2019. the senate was able to pass potential legislation but was unable to get it through the house when the president indicated that he was opposed to it. the current house has passed a permanent replacement last summer, the dream and promise act. mitch mcconnells has as is typical refused to allow for the bill to be taken up by the senate. the court has probably done the administration a favor, for if the white house had been handed a win here, they would have been forced to revoke a policy that roughly 3/4 of american voters approve of and allowed the need for supreme court appointments of a conservative view to be reinvigorated in their campaigns' coalition IMHO. he gets to play the divisive victim card again too.
