How long you been around here? Im not speaking of the last weeks worth of posts. This perception stretches over a few years now.
Good grief, man. Where did I say that a healthy Blazers team is better than a healthy Warriors squad? Healthy, the Warriors are a threat to make the WCF. Healthy, the Blazers could win a play-in and get bounced in the first round. Your comment about the Warriors not having a backup PG seems a bit bizarre to me when both Poole and Green are fully capable of running the point. Keon isn’t fully capable of dribbling. I guess I have a higher expectation for the Blazers than you do, but I’m hardly under any illusion that they are contenders. I’m just saying that I think the roster, when healthy, is a pretty good one given how middling most of the West teams are this season. Seeing what the length of Reddish and the defense of Thybulle would add to the mix is interesting to me. Your mileage appears to differ and I’m not going to try to convince you otherwise.
The Warriors have been mediocre all year. When they’ve been healthy, they’ve been mediocre too. They're 500 with and without Curry. I’ve no idea where you’re pulling this optimism about PDX’s roster being "pretty darned good" from as it seems groundless compared to the well established mediocre rut they’ve established. As for the W's PG situation... Green is the primary guy running the Point for them. Steph is their 2nd option. Since 20 games in or so (when healthy) they always keep one of those two guys on the court after accepting that Poole is a 2 (Kerr has spoken at length about this). Poole may not be as terrible at it as Keon, but he’s a pretty piss poor option for running an offense. STOMP
Tonight's game against Pelicans was important. They had lost four straight and were threatening to overtake us in the race to the bottom. Good job, blazers!
Blazers up to #9 and only 4 games out of the #5 spot with a lengthy road trip coming up. This team needs talent. All Dame's points don't translate to enough wins. They need talent.....and toughness. There is precious little of both.
As we get closer to the end of the season the ‘games back’ metric starts to mean a lot less given how many teams are in the way…
I was wearing my tinfoil hat and realized the conspiracy that is playing out in front of our eyes. The NBA is going to gift us Wembanyama to make the Blazers worth top dollar in the upcoming sale. It all makes sense. The reason we're so short is because Cronin knows that Wemby is coming.
If the Blazers somehow get Wemby, which I don't believe is going to happen, I hope his knees don't implode into black holes as soon as he puts on a Blazers jersey.
Sounds like he wouldn't mind playing with him. The Blazers have moved up 3 spots in the Lottery in just the last 2 games. No time to let up now!
I’ll take a 10% chance. What were our odds when we got the #1 the Oden year? I might even take Scoot over him. Tough to say right now still.
I’ll be happy with Miller or Walker. Brandon Miller could easily end up being the best player in the draft. Guy doesn’t have a weakness.
He has a ton of talent, length and ability. His weakness might be in choice of friends that have brought on legal scrutiny. Was talking this over last night and we came up with the following: The Blazers get the #1 pick and keep it. You can't trade away that type of generational talent The Blazers get the #2-4 pick and trade it with the NYK pick and salaries to get an impact player The Blazers get the #5-14 pick and trade it, the NYK pick, Ant + salaries to get an impact player The better that pick is, the less they will have to give up on the back end, especially if they get to #2. That asset needs to be as good as possible. We start messing around and winning games and end up with a lower pick and Cronin has start start adding Sharpe in with Simons to get a REAL impact player. Part of this is because we STILL don't have control of our future Drafts thanks to Neil thinking Nance was worth all that. I hate 'cheering' for losses, but that is the only way they are able to get either an impactful Draft pick, or a pick high enough that you don't have to strip the rest of the roster to made a trade. Sadly, it's come to the point that an 0-6 road trip might be the best thing that could happen to this franchise in a long time. Imagine the euphoria of getting in the top 2? Of course, it would be almost obligatory that we get the #1 pick and then have a big man have injury troubles, but it is still the best chance this franchise has to actually get better.
Movin on up, er, down - It’s sad/disappointing to look at this roster and seeing the way Dame is playing this year, then try to process that the Blazers have one of the worst records in the league. This roster/coach/ownership should be embarrassed. Oh well. Reality is setting in. Hopefully the lottery gods will shine on the Blazers this year and something good will come out of this ugliness. Go Blazers/Lottery Gods!
Being a long-time Blazer fan I know there are 2 possibilities: If we luck into the pick we'll (1.) choose the wrong guy or (2.) choose the correct guy but as soon as his shoes hit the crappy PDX airport carpet he'll get stress fractures and then his legs will explode as soon as they hit the floor of the practice facility.
Getting to the 5th spot is actually pretty exciting when you realize 3 teams will have a 14% chance, 1 team a 12.5% chance, and that 5th spot team a 10.5 % chance at number 1. I mean our odds at 5 aren’t that much worse than Hou, Det, SA, or Cha.
