Dude, understand the cap before you come back at me. I literally told you that Dame can't be traded this season. I'm not saying he won't be traded he physically can NOT be traded for one year after he signed his max extension which is July 2020. Besides, that trade would be awful and that is putting it as polite as I can.
I understand that part, i wanted to know if you'd do it regardless/if you'd do it in the summer. You thinking it's awful is because you are not being objective. If we're going to start a rebuild there aren't a ton of young, talented players available. A few years ago i said that if i were a GM then i would trade McLillard for AD and a bunch of people were furious at me lol. 2 years later AD kicked us out of the playoffs. Small guards dont usually age well, KAT has room to grow alongside Simons,Little and the draft pick.
It's awful because it's awful, objectivety aside. It doesn't work in the summer because Teague will no longer be under contract. I think almost everyone in here is talking about tanking for just this one season. Surely you can come up with something better than just KAT for Dame and CJ if you're being serious. And if you think KAT is better than Dame or could lead a team to a championship then I think you should take Dame's picture off your avatar because you don't deserve to use it.
Good to see nobody is overreacting. 3 games out of the playoffs with 67 games left and people not only want to tank they want trade Lillard and start over. They really need another serviceable PF/C though. You can't have Skal as your second best big (likely our best big tonight) and expect to win much. That's just brutal.
You should have responded thusly: “Thank you so much for your trade suggestion. Unfortunately due to significant differences in skill levels as well as the risk of alienating 98.3% of the Blazer fan base, I must respectfully decline engaging in the asinine trade talks you have so eloquently proposed. Sincerely, The Trade Janitor”
You took the most annoying approach available. Of course i like Lillard too blah blah blah. That's why i wrote "IF I WAS THE GM! I DONT THINK KAT IS BETTER THAN DAME! its just a part of a rebuild process. Im fine with you pointing out the technicalities, its always possible to tinker with salaries...the discussion was about the idea itself. Like it or not, in 2-3 years Dame might be in a different place in his career. The Trail Blazers franchise will either lose him for nothing, will be forced to a shitty trade or watch him fade while a slower rebuild will be forced upon them. And i did say Dame and CJ for AD 3 years ago, for Jokic and Murray 2 years ago, for Kawai 4 years ago. I was hit with that fanboy approach too back then. We'll see who was right in 2 years my friend.
I wasn't being serious with that, trying to be funny. In a vacuum CJ is clearly a better player. But, I would not bet money that the Blazers are a better team through 82 games with CJ over Teague. I honestly believe the Blazers would be better with a less offensively talented player next to Dame, as long as that player can play plus defense. Teague used to be like that, but not anymore.
What's dumb is anyone can say that about any player. Oh I thought we should've traded Oden for LeBron so I'm so smart! That doesn't mean any of those teams involved would've done that. AD hasn't accomplished shit and forced his way to LA so you'd be stuck without Dame, CJ, and AD right now. Dame and CJ beat Jokic and Murray in the playoffs last year and those guys haven't done shit either, even worse for KAT. There's no way SA would've traded Kawhi before he refused to play with them 2 years ago so you saying you wanted to trade for him 4 years ago doesn't matter one bit. Most of those guys would've left anyway, meanwhile you have a star that actually wants to stay here but no lets kick him to the curb in his prime because you think the grass is greener.
A) We've played 5 home games to 11 (soon to be 13) road games. B) This team has a history of late season rallies. C) Have yet to see what a Dame, CJ, Melo, Zach, Nurk lineup can do. This shit aint over.
This is what happens when you blow up a strong contending team prematurely with no thought to their replacements. Meyers Leonard and Enes Kanter for Whiteside and Melo appears to have been a disastrous downgrade at both ends of the court.
A) We are 1-4 at home. B) This team has no history, mostly new guys. C) Nurk’s career is pretty much over. Not looking good, could be eliminated from playoff contention by Xmas.
Nurk's career is not over... I have worries about his long term health too, but if they reported the truth, then the break didn't do anything that should have long term effects.
I understand what you're getting at, find a "young star" and rebuild. I think there are a few issues here. We'll throw out contract stuff or assume it's at the end of this year. You'll need to find a team for Dame that is in "win-now mode", because Dame will be getting close to the 30-year mark for a guard, teams that are young and building won't be looking. Teams that are in win-now mode will not be giving you a star in return. They'll be giving you packages closer to what New Orleans and OKC got for AD / PG13. Which may or may not be ok if you're looking to completely rebuild. Also, I think we have something special in Dame, a superstar that loves Portland wants to be here doesn't at all seem like he wants to ask out. Even if this year continues to suck, you have another 3-4 years of his prime to put the right pieces around him. There may be a few young guys that on paper you'd trade him for, but the other teams wouldn't, and any trade of Dame will be for a long term rebuild.
