This would have to wait until the day before the deadline but I've seen Bucks fans very interested in getting Dedmon this year...

    Bucks get Dedmon and Swanigan

Hawks get Turner, Jason Smith, Stauskas, a 2019 Portland 1st (lottery protected or a future protected one if they prefer), and a 2020 Milwaukee 2nd round pick (via Washington)

Blazers get Jeremy Lin, Thon Maker, and Prince

Jeremy Lin would bring a bigger fan base and that might mean more all star votes.

Our first this year for Prince is not an overpay at all. We aren’t going to get a player as good as him where we are likely to be drafting (which will be in 20s again).

We need to add a player for salaries to work.

Technically we could use our Trade Exception and waive someone. I really like the idea of getting Prince and dumping salary though.

If we could get Atlanta to take some of our contracts it would be perfect but Prince alone is worth our first, we would need to give them more to take on Meyers, Turner or Harkless.

Why are Atlanta even considering letting Prince go?

Because they don't want him as a starter, and would get to the point of having to overpay soon. Like many have mentioned, best to cash in now, instead of dealing with next year.

They have 2 picks this year, I imagine they prefer one later, and I don't want to be tied up in the distance. Hesitant to offer 2020 for him. Start with baldwin and swanigan for him.

Of course each team values taking on salary differently, but if we use the recent Bucks/Cavs trade as a barometer the Bucks basically dumped $20 million in contracts next year on the Cavs for a future lottery protected 1st. Plus they got back George Hill who can actually help them this season too.

To me that is about equal to giving Atlanta Turner, Swanigan, and a 1st for Lin and Prince. If we're going to give up a 1st we might as well clean up our books a little bit this summer too.

4-team trade that gets players that make sense for all teams, IMO. Who says no?

    POR GETS:
    J. Lin / T. Prince / V. Carter / J. Smith
    ATL GETS: E. Turner / M. Leonard / S. Johnson / 2019 POR 1st* / 2019 DET 2nd / Cash from MIL
    DET GETS: S. Curry
MIL GETS: D. Dedmon, D. Hamilton

    *Lottery Protected

    PORTLAND SENDS: E. Turner / M. Leonard / S. Curry / 2019 POR 1st
    PORTLAND GETS: J. Lin / T. Prince / V. Carter / J. Smith
PORTLAND SAVES: Apx. $8.0M (Gets under Luxury Tax)
    - Gets rotation upgrades in Lin and Prince, and a vet in Carter while getting under the luxury tax. Clears $26M in salary for next season as well. Cuts Baldwin or Swanigan.

    Lillard (36) / Lin (12)
    McCollum (35) / Lin (13)
    Prince (30) / Layman (18)
    Aminu (30) / Harkless (18)
    Nurkic (32) / Collins (18)

    ATLANTA SENDS: J. Lin / T. Prince / D. Dedmon / V. Carter / D. Hamilton
    ATLANTA GETS: E. Turner / S. Johnson / M. Leonard / 2019 POR 1st / 2019 DET 2nd / Cash from MIL

    - Atlanta gets a young former lotto pick in Johnson who might need a fresh start, as well as a future 1st round pick. They might need a little more, but they have Turner and Leonard lined up to expire with Bazemore, and they add their third 1st and fourth 2nd in this upcoming draft which could help them trade up. This helps them tank as well.

    DETROIT SENDS: S. Johnson, 2019 DET 2nd
    DETROIT GETS: S. Curry

    - Detroit needs some help at the guard spots, and could definitely use more shooting. With them pushing for the playoffs, they would likely swap out the ineffective Johnson and a 2nd for a lethal shooter at the guard spot.

    MILWAUKEE SENDS: J. Smith, Cash
MILWAUKEE GETS: D. Dedmon, W. Baldwin IV

    - Milwaukee upgrades their C spot without giving up anything of value.

    ---

The only team I could see saying "no" is Atlanta. But that's not a bad haul at all for them.

How about we clean up our books this year as well? (Look above)

    Atlanta says no to that.

Edit: You keep changing it so it's all messed up anyway.

I'm not sure if ATL does that, but I could see the argument in favor of it for all the teams.

Literally only swapped Harkless for Leonard. And that's basically what you're proposing to Atlanta anyway.

You had both of them in the rotation though and Detroit getting different players. In my trade above where they get Stauskas and Jason Smith both are expiring so Turner is the only one they're taking on for next year.

So I asked Bucks fans if they'd trade Thon Maker and Jason Smith for Dedmon and Swanigan and the only response back I've gotten is "Yes instantly".

BTW, I was wrong about having to wait to execute the trade (Jason Smith can't be combined with anyone until Feb 6th). Dedmon for Smith straight up works so from Milwaukee's end they could split it up into two trades Smith for Dedmon and Maker for Swanigan.

Yeah I forgot to fix the rotation. Should be 100% correct now. I think that's a great trade.

I think Atlanta would value Meyers Leonard and Stanley Johnson as much as Stauskas and Smith. They'd need a C to replace Dedmon and could see what they have in Leonard. Johnson is a young player they'd probably like to take a chance at and see if they could get something out of him Detroit didn't. They're unlikely to use up all their cap space next summer so a $10M hit from Leonard doesn't matter too much.

And if that's the case, have Maker going to Atlanta. They'd definitely do that trade then:

    ORL GETS: J. Lin / T. Prince / V. Carter / J. Smith
    ATL GETS: E. Turner / M. Leonard / T. Maker / S. Johnson / 2019 POR 1st / 2019 DET 2nd
    DET GETS: S. Curry
MIL GETS: D. Dedmon, J. Anderson

    Smith is under $6.3M so can be used to match salary at 175%+100K ($5.5M x 1.75 + 100K = $9.725M)
Dedmon + Anderson = $9.716M < $9.725M, so Smith matches Dedmon and Anderson by himself, so they can trade Maker to since he's not need to match salary.

I think Atlanta would definitely do that.

Thon Maker was originally a Blazer draft prospect of interest.....FWIW.

Define “good.” Look at the players that have fetched firsts. They’re all better than Prince. Numbers suggest Prince is a below average starter, above average bench player. He falls in that Oubre/Harkless category where your buying what he theoretically could become rather than what he actually is.

I think they may do it for the Draft picks, but I think they are mainly hoping for really young players and hoping to hit in the draft. You’re probably more dialed into ATL than I am, thats kind of just my perspective from very far away.

I m not sure ML or ET would fit their vision of trying to build a young talent base around Young and JCollins. I could be wrong completely about what their plans are.

They'd get two young players to gamble on in Maker and Johnson as well as a 1st and a 2nd. Pretty good haul for Prince and two expiring veteran role players.

They have Bazemore as a bad contract expiring at the same time as Leonard and Turner. They're not going to be players in free agency. Obviously, they probably don't want those contracts but I don't think it's really going to affect them.
