This would set a bad precedent imo. This would go beyond whether or not the suspension is deserved. It would teach players that you can do stupid stuff and as long as its an important game, you'll get to play.

Also it completely goes against the WTD ethos, of "Faceless Opponents"

Gee - instead of a suspension (that hurts his team-mates) why not punish *him*?

Make him spend christmas break doing community service at a foodbank or homeless shelter. If you believe he harmed the community, then make him carry out an act of restitution.

Put it this way - what punishment should the other students involved face?

Snowball fights are often banned on campuses and in parks. I am not aware that they are banned at Oregon.

But, either is playing tackle football. But, can someone who is playing tackle football stop a passing motorist and when they get out of the vehicle, tackle them?

    No.

    Why?

They are not a voluntary participant.

Voluntary participation is written into statutes and part of case law. If that were your mom or dad, I would expect your reaction to be a bit different -- no?

What is criminal is harassment...a Class B Misdemeanor.
