It's only been a few months since Favre's retirement speech....do you really think the roster looks that much different now? The coaching staff? The playbook (perhaps this is the most likely of the three)? Let's just say for arguement's sake that Favre's return would upset the whole team chemistry that they have developed over the course of 3 months without him in the picture. As we all know, the voluntary portions of an NFL offseason are a huge indicator of what your team will be made up of in September Let's say that his presence completely upsets the whole roster and they have to remove 1 out of their 53 players to make room for him, eventually. If this is the case, then they should just let him go play somewhere else. He shouldn't be forced to retire if A) He doesn't want to, and B) if there is a team out there that is willing to take him. The fact that he changes his mind is a character flaw. Everyone has them. As an NFL fan, I want to see this man continue to play football if he still can. I believe he has both the mind and the body to play at least one more season in this league.

I don't see Favre's changing his mind as a character flaw. He's 38 and made the decision in March. I'm sure he feels much better in July than he did in March. Mariucci said that Favre started doing his routine that he does every offseason and he was feeling really good. If he thinks he can give it another go, the Packers should be delighted because the difference in having Favre play or not is the difference in having a shot at the Super Bowl or not. If the purpose of playing football isn't to win the Super Bowl, then what is it? As a Dolphins fan, I can tell you that replacing a Hall of Fame QB isn't easy and going into the season knowing that you don't have a shot at the postseason really sucks. However, if the Packers want to go in another direction that's fine, but Thompson should stop being a steaming turd and give Favre his release and let him go play football while he can.
Favre gives the Packers the best chance to win now, but I think some are overlooking what Thompson's built in Green Bay. Let's ignore QB for awhile. They have a good, solid OL that opens up holes for their cutback running style they use. Ryan Grant emerged from nowhere and won't be a one hit wonder at RB. He has enough breakaway speed to be effective, but more importantly, has good vision, quick feet, and is a patient runner in the their running scheme. They also have Jackson in the mix, giving them a young RB tandem. They are stocked and young at WR; Driver has experience, but Jennings, Jones, Martin, Nelson are all young WRs that could be with Green Bay for years. Defensively, they Kampmann is great. Cole, Kabeer are solid. Harrell was a 1st rounder from a year ago, but didn't do much. Pickett played pretty decently; they have a nice DL that can generate pressure. The question mark I see is depth at CB. That being said, if Rodgers can come in and play effectively, they'll be fine. He's had 3 years (?) to sit. Consequently, as someone already said...the Packers are a young team. Can they build a contending team year in year out dealing with the Favre saga? At some point, both parties need to move on. Yes, for this year, Favre is probably better than Rodgers. But if you continue to have to go through the retirement saga every offseason, it may prove to be a drain on the younger players. Favre is quick fix right now. Packers are looking long term. Right, wrong, or indifferent.

Right, wrong, or indifferent.</div> Aside from what Aaron Rogers thinks... I guess I don't understand what you mean by a "drain on young players". I would think that the Favre's approval rating among young players is pretty high considering that they grew up watching this guy win playoff games and leading his team to a Superbowl. To me, that is HIGH charisma. When you say it's a drain, are you saying physically? Does Favre push them too much? Mentally? Does he get on people too much? Again, we haven't even hit the mandatory training camp yet. There are veterans all over the league who are excused from all the voluntary workouts. Please explain what you mean by drain. thanks.

Brett Favre has been the Packer QB forever. It would be easier to have him in the huddle than the new kid. Favre also gives them a chance to bet a Super Bowl ring this year rather than hope Rodgers becomes good enough to give them a chance a few years down the road. Training camp hasn't even started yet and Favre rarely participated in voluntary minicamps anyway. If the Packer front office wanted to eliminate the possibility of distraction then they would give Favre his release. That would show they have truly moved on.

Dunno how much it impacts them...but it probably is a distraction on some level. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>It would be easier to have him in the huddle than the new kid. Didn't say that this decision is void of any distraction either. But it does remove the cloud from the front office in terms of roster management.

You may have seen it on TV, its the one that says, "your cholesterol comes from two sources, treat them both". They show a plate of food, and then a person that resembles that plate of food in color and shape. Is that where you got the idea from?

Actually, I was searching for a quick picture to put up as my avatar months ago.... I had just gotten done talking to my roommate about the Bulls front office. Lemon was the first thing I thought of. Just haven't gotten around to changing it.
