Bob Akamian may be the only person in the world who can make me consider drinking poison after a 20-point blowout victory. Talk about someone who sucks the life out of every room he walks into. Luftman wasn't great, but I'd take his character over Akamian every day of the week and twice on Sunday. What about Ian Furness or that chick Laura Greene who hosts the Rip City Live show before the games? Honestly is this city so talent-deprived that Bob Akamian gets every job from Division III lacrosse up to our only professional team? There have been many times I've channel-stumbled into some lower-division Oregon collegiate nonsense sport, and there's big ol' Bob calling the action.
Hate to kick the guy in the rear on his way out the door, but it seems many agree with me that he was simply too goofy and not very good. How much of that is is fault? I wonder. These shows do have producers, and I should think that they’d have told him and Holton to knock off the silliness and let them know that it wasn’t working. I noticed from Bens post that he had previously held a job in Memphis as a sideline reporter for the Grizzlies. http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/7/7/941034/studio-host-tony-luftman-will-not That kind of surprised me, because he seemed completely out of his element. I’m sure whoever they replace him with will be a better fit. I’m not big on Bob Akamian either, but Michael Holton was much more calm, focused and insightful when Bob was sitting next to him. From all accounts Tony is a standup guy. I hope wherever he lands it works out better for him than this gig did. He just never seemed comfortable.
