I got us 2 points in a win over Orlando probably 9 years ago. This was before Instant Replay. Got a point added to a BRoy 3 and one taken away on a JJ Reddick 2. Those were the days.
Once again, I don't give a fuck that it didn't end up effecting the play. It is impossible for Morris to know that thus making it 100% true that he was TRYING to effect the play. That fact is inarguable. He purposely tried to change the outcome of the game. Knowing that I think he should be punished as if he did. You don't think it's a big deal for a player to come on the court and grab someone because the play didn't end up going to that person? I just can't agree with that opinion that it's no big deal. What if during our 3 on 3 tourney that stupid fuck from the championship game grabbed you from the sideline and the refs didn't see it? That would be alright with you as long as the guy didn't effect the outcome of the game? No big deal right?
It has been done in many other sports (and college basketball)- cheating leading to after the fact changes - Ben Johnson stripped of his gold medal, Lance Armstrong stripped of his TdF wins, The Fab Five stripped of their wins and record because C-Webb accepted money as a college athlete, Bobby Unser at the Indy 500 - and so on and so forth I have no problems with officiating errors during the game - because they are human as well, but cheating and unsportsmanlike behavior that the officials really should not be looking at during the game - that's fair play in my book. I am no fan of cheaters "winning" because they were not caught in the act. That's just absurd, imho.
The fact that I don't think automatic 20 game suspensions, or $100K fines are the solution, doesn't mean I don't care or don't think he should receive a penalty. He's a bitch and I dislike them both. I simply think y'all are making a mountain out of a molehill.
If this shit happened in the NBA Finals........ that's all anybody would be talking about. Slippery slope for the league.
Yeah, I admit my opinion is a bit extreme but I also think a $15,000 fine is also the same as no punishment. At the very least they should've announced stricter bench rules along with the fine if they weren't going to punish the Wizards for doing that so it doesn't happen in the future.
Yup, this is another reason why I thought they should have come down hard on the Wizards and Morris. A $15,000 fine is a joke.
And I'm sure his punishment would have been a lot more severe had this happened in the finals. But it didn't, and his actions had little to no consequences. I get the idea of setting a precedent, but not to any extreme, especially in this scenario.
That "slap on the wrist" certainly sets precedent should someone do it again. However, we have learned with the NBA that precedent means nothing. CJ takes a step on the court....1-games suspension. Steph Curry takes a step on the court.....nothing happens. Draymond Green kicks numerous players in the nards.....nothing. He knees LeBron and it's an immediate suspension. #Fail
Exactly. And you better believe a $15K fine isn't going to deter anyone - even someone on a vet min contract - from cheating if they think it'll help them win in the Finals (or any other important game).
