That was the worst performance by a starting PF in the history of our franchise.

I got the joke. Just didn't think it was THAT hilarious.

jlprk, I'll need a translation for your "witty" response, though. Seems above my paygrade?

I didn't see the game. Was LMA visibly gimpy, or was it the fact that he was being double-teamed by the DPoY and someone else every time he touched the ball? Or both? If he's gimpy, is it worth tossing JP or Tolliver in to see what they can do, and get LMA off his bum wheel?

I mean, I love me some Webster, but when he's shooting crappily is he still our best backup PF option?

    Unfortunately, it's not a draw.

    Aldridge's PER: 3 pts +1 rebound +3 steals + 1 assist -1 turnover -6 missed shots = +1 in 31
    minutes

One positive thing per 31 minutes.

    Wallace: 3 pts +1 rebound + 7 assists + 1 steal - 3 turnovers - 6 missed shots = +3 in 40 minutes.

One positive thing per 13 minutes.

Actually, that's not PER, that's EFF.

EFF is a quick and easy calculation that helps summarize a player's productivity. It can be used for a single game, or as an average for a month, entire season, etc. It measures raw good minus bad stats to come up with the total number. It does not make any adjustments for minutes played or game pace.

A more sophisticated stat for single game performance is Game Score (GmSc). Aldridge's GmSc last night was 0.6. Sheed's GmSc from that 11/25/03 game against WAS was 0.8. So, he "wins" by a small margin.

However, that wasn't Sheed's worse game as a Blazer. He had a GmSc of -1.8 on 12/11/02 against NJN, a -2.3 GmSc against VAN on 3/6/01, a -3.4 on 1/8/00 against PHO and a -4.1 GmSc against DEN on 11/5/99. He also had 4 more negative GmSc games his 1st year in Portland (although not all as a starter) and several other games with a GmSc between 0 and 0.5 during his year's in Portland.

So, in terms of Game Score, Sheed had at least a dozen games as a Blazer worse than Aldridge's 0.6 GmSc from last night.

BTW, the GmSc for Zach's 0-12 performance on 2/1/05 was -7.1. I'm not sure if that is the worst performance EVER by a Blazer starting power forward, but if not, it has to be close.

I was curious whether Zach was playing injured, so I looked up the game. (Sheed's worst games may have been for the same reason. I didn't look them up.)

Zach was hurting but played off the bench for 29 minutes. The other major bench players were rookies Khryapa and Telfair and 2nd year Outlaw. They would have fouled out if Zach hadn't played. It was Khryapa's first game ever in the NBA, called up from the Injured List that day, Feb. 1, because we had nobody. Derek Anderson and Ha were out. We played the Lakers, who were inspired by two things, the missing Kobe, and their last game ever coached by Rudy T.

All 12 of them? Face it, Sheed often took nights off where he just wasn't mentally into the game. If you do bother to look up his worst games, you will also see he often also had 5 or 6 fouls (and likely a T or two) to go along with his awful production. It was very easy for him to get distracted by the refs and let it impact his play.

And Aldridge was also playing hurt last night and the Blazers were short handed.

Anyone who is a regular starter in the NBA for several years in a row is bound to have a few really bad games. Aldridge had one last night. Sheed had many, and Zach had others beside the 0-12 performance I mentioned. All three have also had many more very excellent games. I don't think it's fair to get down on any of them for a very occasional, really bad game. It happens. The players bounce back and do better next time - like Aldridge did tonight.

I was just trying to address the OP's assertion that Aldridge's performance last night was the worst in team history for a starting PF. It wasn't, but it was still very bad. But, it's over and done and he played much better tonight.
