I'm calling it right here. Tomorrow night, in Portland . . . Brandon Roy comes back tomorrow and has a huge game.

As superstars often do, he'll come back strong following a loss and poor performance (if that's what you call what happened in tonight's game, which I personally think had more to do with his foul trouble)

But I thought Brandon pooped gold and couldn't miss a shot, even with the entire league defending him???

I though he would win every game for us and score 50 points every outing???

I mean geez, Clyde Drexler never had a bad game. Maybe we should un-pre-retire Roy's jersey?

Jesus, some of us blazer fans are Bi-Polar.:drumroll:

This doesn't have anything to do with a loss for me. I agree he has a right to post his opinion but IMO he is trolling not posting his true opinion. I can't go into it anymore without getting my post deleted. I know one thing I'm thinking about going back to BBF if they had enough posters.

Of course it's nothing new man, I even posted before the game that Billups would rape Blake. There is a difference between playing bad defense and playing none at all. Letting someone go 42 minutes without a turnover when the team's best player is out is not acceptable.

Sounds kind of like you mean "enough posters that agree with what you say". GL with that.

Roy was probably just gassed because of the elevation issues in Denver. I presume he'll whoop ass tonight no problem.
Also, some of the fouls on him last night were complete and utter garbage.
Superstars are allowed to have off-nights.

I'm more concerned with our bench, it's bleh, meh,so-so craptastic.....we have nobody to DRIVE to the rim...except bayless....and then see the bayless thread.. :)

Nothing to do with posters agreeing with me. Actually I like it when many posters don't agree with me. I just don't like trolls that just cause problems for the sake of pissing people off without really adding anything.

I'm not upset with MIXUM saying Roy isn't a superstar. I don't think Roy is a superstar but just a great player. IMO there are only two superstars playing right now Kobe and LeBron. Even back in the MJ, Bird and Magic days I thought those three were the only superstars then with many other stars like Malone, Barclay etc. IMO there has been maybe 10-15 total superstars in the history of the NBA. Some people say there are 5-10 superstars ever generation but I don't agree.

Wow, that was quite a reaction for what I don't consdier to be that controversial a statement. Yes, he probably only said it to get a rise out of people but if you are of the belief that there are only ~3-5 supertars in the game and they transend the game (as I am), then no, he is not a superstar. He's very good, will be a multiple all star, and may become a superstar, but he's just not right now.

I know, his per is close to Kobe but it's been less than 30 games, do it for a few years. I know, people in portland love him (as well as most other basketball fans), but I don't think many non-basketball fans know who he is. They know Kobe or Lebron. The fame of those 2 goes beyond scoring 25 points.

This is not a knock on Roy, he's just not on that level...yet?

I agree completely with your thoughts on Roy and being a superstar. There just are not more then 3-4 superstars IMO at any given time and right now I would say just Kobe and LeBron ane superstars. I have watched and followed the NBA before Portand even had the Blazers and even Kobe and LeBron are not on the level of the superstars of past generations IMO but that is a different topic.

Well, obviously, this hinges entirely on what your definition of "superstar" is.

I don't really have one, personally, it's entirely too subjective. I would count B-Roy as among the 10-15 best players in the NBA right now. But I think for the Blazers to be a lock to make the playoffs, and to make any noise once they get there, Roy needs help. The Cavs are the only team in the league doing well with only one really good player - and LeBron is a lot better than Roy.

The Blazers desperately need Aldridge, Outlaw, Fernandez, or Oden (those are the best possibilities if you ask me) to establish themselves at least as top 50 players.

Not a big deal. Neither team really wanted that game last night! It was painful to watch! Tonight the Blazers win by 20 in a blowout and everyone will be back on the Roy wagon.

    It will be a blowout!!!

He is (one of the top 10 players in the league right now)

I would argue that Labron's Cavs were completely mediocre until they got another playmaker (Mo Williams) to go with Labron. Now they have 3 scorers when you add Big Z in there. Big Z isn't a playmaker though. He needs someone else to set him up. Kind of like Lamarcus. We get another playmaker to take the pressure off Roy and a b/u PF who does the dirty work (plays D, rebounds, plays [physical) and we'll see what kind of superstar B-Roy is.

It isn't the opinion that Roy isn't a superstar that's a problem, it's the "That's why" portion of the thread title that's an issue. Taking one off game when Roy was mired in foul trouble and using it as a measuring stick for the "superstar" label is as silly as using LeBron's Dec. 5th outing against Indiana, where he "only" scored 11 points, and saying, "That's why" he's not a superstar.

The reason that LeBron and Kobe are in a different class than Brandon is that if you look at the season stat sheets, they fill up the leading scorer box night after night and consistently score 25 or more points. Brandon has shown that he's getting closer, as the last two weeks show, but he hasn't done it month after month for multiple seasons. If that's the measure of being a superstar, then "That's Why" Roy isn't quite there yet. Given the depth of this team, frankly, he'll probably never be that kind of a scorer night in and night out. Of course, Magic Johnson and other recognized superstars weren't huge scorers either. Perhaps the title means a little something different to different people?

Roy is a borderline superstar(along with the Joe Johnsons, TMac and Pierces of the league, not quite in the Kobe, Lebron, Garnett echelon). And all superstars have off nights. But this loss sits squarely on Roy's shoulders. It's OK, he is young and still improving and seems to take poundings like this personally and learns from his failings.

But a Superstar should be able to handle double teams.

But he was not the only person who is at fault. A lot of the team seriously sucked. But the one person more responsible for the loss than Roy is NATE. The amount of time that he stuck with Ike (still only 9 minutes) really hurt the flow of the team. But mostly, Nate never seemed to get the team to move the ball and set the pics and make the passes that has been the hallmark of the Blazers when they win.

in response to people who think im taunting.

    its ridiculous to think that.

I say what i think. Roy is not a superstar. Sorry its true. dont be mad at me cause i said it. i love the blazers but facts are facts. i said nash was a loser, i said telfair blew, etc. Was i wrong about those things? At the time i was called out with the same stuff im being attacked here for. Heres some more stuff you prob dont wann hear...

Our SFs are a joke....and we dont have time to wait for webster to get back.

Roy isnt gonna make it through this seaosn if we dont get him a solid 3rd scorer who you can count on every night.

Our backup PF situation is horrible. Frye and Ike are worhtless

Its amazing KP wants to keep waiting for teh cake to bake cause we have some major issues and will keep getting exposed. We know outlaw sucks, we know frye is awful, sergio is nothing special, and bayless has a way to go. WTF else does he need to see? We know the keepers are roy, la(who i would trade for a boozer type player), oden, pryz, rudy and maybe bayless.

i dont get what there is to see.

BOTTOM LINE....when steve blake is your 3rd best scoring option or at least consistant option...YOU HAVE PROBLEMS. At least KP is enjoying watching the cake bake!

Who do suggest we trade and for what Mixim? If you're keeping Roy, LA, Oden, Pryz, Rudy . . . who are you going to get for Outlaw, Frye, Webster, Sergio, Batum, etc?

Don't kid yourself, if there was a trade out there that made sense KP would jump on it. The only players that have real market value right now are the guys you call "Keepers".

Letting the cake bake is code for "What the hell other choice do we have right now?"
