Griffey needs to get some legs at LF or even 1B every now and then, that'll help him out. And I gotta agree on the baserunning, Wakamatsu has been way too conservative and he has to let two of the fastest guys run freely at the top of the order. More pressure on P + C = less pressure on the teammate who's at-bat.
We stopped running as much because there were a boatload of base running mistakes the first week or so, and I think he's just trying to get guys under control.
2-0 loss in another great pitching performance, we need to get a real bat to put in our DH spot because we are losing game that we shouldn't! Griffey and Sweeney aren't cutting it and Jack Wilson is killing us too.
Wow this is getting old fast. Great starts all for nothing as we can't get run on the board. We need a bat quick!
I'm not going to bash Wak for putting D.A. in the game. He's your closer. He gets paid to hold 1-run leads in the 9th. Fister isn't paid to go over 100 pitches to protect a one-run lead in the 9th. If Fister would've stayed in, and given up the one run, people would be screaming about not using our 46-of-his-last-50-converted closer and relying on basically a rookie starter to give you a complete game shutout. Nah, I don't mind the decision. Byrnes should've been cut on Friday after the squeeze. I mean, pinch-hit for him immediately with that 1-2 count. That's an E-GREE-gious error on his part. Get the head in the game, buddy.
I don't mind seeing Jo. Wilson and Langerhans, though color me unimpressed with the power of the two bats coming up. Which one of these never-gonna-happen scenarios is more likely, iyo? a) Lineup is shuffled to go Figgins/Kotchman/Ichiro/Guti/Bradley b) Lee is traded as part of a package to get a big bat c) Ackley is brought up to play some LF and spot infield. (Granted, he's only batting .147 also at West Tenn, but 5 of his 11 hits have gone for extra bases and he's pulled 13 walks and 14 k's)
Honestly, with the emergence of Fister and Vargas, i'm ALL for trading Cliff Lee + fillers for someone like Adrian Gonzalez. Of course, my dream is for us to acquire Justin Upton by sending Cliff Lee, D.A., Vargas and 5 million dollars, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.
BTW...I've personally watched 5 at bats in the last few games with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs. We haven't scored yet. The last time was a strikeout of our cleanup and 5 hitters. That's not gonna fly, boys.
And it frustrates me too because I KNOW that we catapult to a 90 win team by simply getting Justin Upton or Adrian Gonzalez.
Uhh....I don't think we catapult to 90 wins if we trade away our pitching staff to get 1 bat. This lineup is a disaster and we need I believe 2 bats right now to make this lineups decent, or a threat. I wish we would of just been able to resign Branyan, and have him as a DH rather than Griffey. Ugh
Gotta disagree man. Lopez, Gutz and even Ichiro can compensate for that lack of a 2nd big bat. If we had Gonzalez or Upton penned at the 3 or cleanup the other guys would mold their roles to their spot. A fister + Felis + (one or two decent FA acquisition?) combo coupled with that lineup would do a lot damage in our division.
Besides, cliff lee has no loyalty with us. I'd much rather trade him for a power and speed stud like Upton than get nothing at all for him.
we need to make a trade, can't wait till the deadline..or we'll be outta the race..our offense is so fucking bad i don't want to trade lee though, i have slight hope we will open the paycheck to resign him
I wouldn't mind trading him, and THEN opening up the checkbook in December. That won't happen, though. Honestly, Vargas, Snell and FIster have brought it the last month. Props to them for doing so. We need a bat in LF. And maybe one at 1B. And yes, RH DH.
