i think that's the likely scenario, and i'm OK with it. CJ can always be moved in the summer also.

i like that idea, but Grant doesn't really fit the dirty work kinda mold. Dude is and wants to be a chucker with high usage.

He's been playing for nothing the past year and a half on the worst team in the league and was a stellar dirty work guy before that. GMAB.

From one report anyway... doesn't sound like he's very interested in that idea. There were also reports that he left Denver for the same reason, and that he had a similar offer from a team on the brink of contention in the Nuggets but chose to go to Detroit instead, where he led the team to the #1 draft pick.

    https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/01/1...ami-grant-wants-big-offensive-role-if-traded/

Sources say Grant expects to sign a lucrative extension in the ballpark of four years, $112 million this offseason. For any team to sign off on a trade for Grant, they’ll need assurances of his plans to re-sign this offseason, just like Gordon did in Denver. Grant also has little interest in joining a new situation where he doesn’t feature as a primary offensive option, sources said.

I get that's the narrative, but he made a hell of a good business decision when he left Denver, no? I think if he's a co-#2 option with Ant (and Nurk as a #4) there's plenty of shots to go around, especially if we have players like Smart, Little, Nance, Zeller, and Snell.

i don't think he's really motivated by winning, and i have no interest in giving him a contract close to 30 mil/ yr. I showed the stats earlier-- Nas projects to be him with fairly normal development, and his impact is identical to Powell's. Only thing is that he's taller.

that's the thing. I don't want him being the #2 option. Nor do I want to pay him like one. He's pretty inefficient and needs the ball to produce. And his defense, even while in Denver, was trending downward.

    again.

in theory. but in reality he doesn't really do any of that well.

I'd be OK with a Powell for Grant swap, begrudgingly due to his contract extension. But I don't want to give up more than that. I even said I liked your idea. Just know what you're getting with him.

    This year:

    Powell: 33 min, 18.6 pts, 46% FG, 40% 3pt, 3 rebs, 2 asts. 59% TS, 16.1 PER (23% usage rate)
    Grant: 33 min, 20.1 pts, 41% FG, 33% 3pt, 4.8 rebs, 2.6 asts, 54% TS, 16.7 PER (27% usage rate)

Career numbers for defense are fairly close as well.

That 33% from 3 is not pretty, especially since Grant throws up more than 5 a game.

If he he scores less, he becomes more realistically attainable imo, despite the defensive production. They’re 24th in offense without Williamson, but I feel like they almost have to try and go for it and try to make the playoffs just to convince Zion on the extension. Ingram is a 3 and Zion is a 4, and I feel like Jones would be their third choice of the three. They need more scorers at the guard position.

I also think Trey Murphy III has the size and attributes to be Herb Jones as well though, he just doesn’t get to see the floor. I think if NOP started seeing the play-in slip away, we might be able to get a lightly protected (maybe top 8-10 protected or something) 1st with Murphy for Powell. With the Lakers, Clippers, Kings, and Timberwolves all in that play-in picture, it’s not even a guarantee that NOP would make the playoffs if they kept Jones and added Powell. AD has returned and Kawhi might return.

You’d have to really buy into Murphy to like the deal. But I don’t think it would be unrealistic to end up with Murphy and, say, the 11th pick in this year’s draft.

That 4.8 rebounds per game is pretty horrendous as well. Jeez.

That too on a team with no real centers.

Compare that to nas getting 5.6 rebs in 8 fewer minutes. I keep getting surprised to hear the whole league being after him.

Grant will NEVER be the first option on a great team. Surely he doesn't believe that he could lead a team to a deep playoff run. As was posted here, if he is your third option, ya got a chance to contend.

I really don't see the attraction for Grant. He's not that good.
