I would do this. I think the Sixers would then want to make another deal and probably move Seth or Maxey for help on the wing or they would flip CJ for whatever made sense for them from the Pelicans. For us this gets us a star that fits well with Dame but should also set off a number of additional trades for us that happen now and help this roster make more sense.

If we get Valunciunas we’re going to have to trade Nurk.

Yep and we should be able to get a really good return due to the way Nurk has been beasting.

Simons is untouchable for me. Kid is 22 and is showing signs of being a star, those are hard to find.

Same. Plus a 3 headed backcourt of Dame, Ben, and Simons would be unbelievable. Ben wouldn't need to be the primarily ball handler in the half court offense ever, there'd be tons of spacing for him, and he wouldn't have to shift up to play PF or C as long as we had some decent shooters at 3/4.

    why?

Val is very good offensively and on a tradeable contract over the next 2 seasons. One would probably have to go if Nurk was-re-signed, but it could be Val and it could be sometime in the off-season.

now, if a team ponies up good assets for Nurkic before the trade deadline, then sure, trade Nurk, especially if the Blazers have landed Val

A 6’8 Center who can’t play defense and would be shorter than your star-rookie PF and all-star PF? I mean I guess…

If this is the vision, there are guys like Hachimura who can probably be had right now who would be great with Simmons on both sides of the ball. I’ve heard Wizards think he can be elite defensively. Not sure I believe in his defense that much but he certainly has the atheltic gifts to pair really well with Simmons. Bamba and Smith will both be available in FA as C options

    Dame/Simons/Simmons/Hachimura/Bamba
Nas will be back and could replace Hachimura and move Simmons to PF if that ever proved to be a better lineup.

CJ and Nurk to Indy for Sabonis, LeVert and McConnell would be tight!

I’m not sure how they could put together a contending roster while not taking a high risk on a trade.

The answer is they can't. It's simple logic.

I don't understand what's risky about a guy in Simmons who was just runner up DPOY, put up the numbers he did while placating a ball hogging egotist superstar (Embiid) and setting up a good teammate a lot (Harris). He was the second best player on the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference. He had one bad series, his name was bandied about in trade talks for the second straight early off season, that egotist superstar teammate of his talked shit, he didn't seem to have a good relationship with his coach and he demanded a trade and that's the first time in his 5 years in the league that we've heard about him being anything but a solid teammate.

Morey is the one who is doing the unprecedented thing of letting an all nba player sit without getting any return for him. I think it's pretty obvious that he would come here, Dame would do nothing but talk him up like he does every one of his teammates without fail, Chauncey would embrace all of the great things he does and just ask him to work on the stuff he needs to work on and we would see the best Ben Simmons that anyone has seen which would be a far better player than Dame has ever played with before.

I guess because he's had one playoff series where he completely laid an egg when it came to scoring but dominated every other part of his role, there is some risk but it's a completely hedged bet because at worst we get a DPOY level guy on one end who can facilitate at an elite level on the other end. The very most we would have to pay for that is CJ (RoCo to the Bulls for our pick back and matching salaries) and first rounders in 23, 25 and 27 along with pick swaps in 24, 26 and 28. That's the very most and would be us just telling Morey he can have what his opening offer was, which I can't imagine would be what it would take. We don't need a bunch of first round picks for the next six seasons if we're sticking with Dame but we sure could use an all nba player.

So I think very easily we can have Ben Simmons if we want him and it would make our team so much better that the pick swaps if they were necessary would be negligible. I also think we could get Jaylen Brown because the Celtics need change and Ant, Norm and Larry would be very hard to turn down for Brown and filler roster spots. Regardless of what happens besides that, having Dame, Brown and Simmons guaranteed on the same team for the next two seasons after this one automatically makes us a contender. They would definitely be joined by Nas, GB3, a first round pick and a second round pick for next season as well.
