God damn I know it's only 68 people before me that voted but 86% want the Pelicans to trade for CJ. The NOLA fans want it, reportedly the Pelicans front office wants it and I'm pretty sure we're all dying for it to happen.

This is where I'm at too. If we get a good enough offer for CJ, great, the writing is clearly on the wall that its best for everyone if we move him. But the rumored package with NOLA is fairly underwhelming in my mind... Barring another significant injury, it doesn't feel like his value is going anywhere between now and the draft, might as well hold to up your leverage until you get what you deem is good value...

we have exactly 0 reasons to simply gift CJ to NO in a salary dump. It's not like his stats and production are going to drastically worsen our draft position and it's very likely that more teams will want him in the summer after playoff flameouts, etc. He eventually has to go for our rebuild, but it doesn't have to be in two weeks.

Unless we get a package of a prospect + pick, or a borderline all star wing, or a Siakam/Simmons type, I'm perfectly happy keeping CJ thru the season.

Exactly. My only fear is ownership running this team like a business and not trying to win a championship. Maybe they haven't sold because Covid has depressed franchise value a touch, or some other reason, but that's one thought that worries me. If that's the case, that they're simply looking at profits, I can see a case to dump CJ's contract. But still... yuck.

nah, the only reason Jody has yet to sell is because she's waiting for the valuations to go up after the new TV deal kicks in in 2025. Some early estimates figured the number could be 3x the deal the signed in 2016.

Makes total sense. I've been completely out of the loop on that whole thing, so that's reassuring. I guess it'd be nice to see some amount of activity from the leadership group that suggests we have interest in winning, though. Perhaps the deadline is that chance...

CJ and Ant are redundant just like CJ and Dame but they're obviously not as good individually so when they are less than the sum of there parts it will win even less games. That being said CJ is still great at getting buckets and when he wants to facilitating. He will still contribute to enough wins to screw us out of a decent pick but definitely won't get us enough wins to get us out of purgatory.

I'm dying to see him moved either for a piece that will actually make sense with Dame, who can start to get the hang of Chauncey's system while Dame heals up or for assets that will allow us both to tank and make trades in the off season that make this roster more cohesive and ultimately better. I'm dying for CJ to be traded because every trade deadline and every draft for the last 5 or so years I've been hoping Neil would come to his senses and now that we have a new guy I need him to show that he gets it right away because otherwise I might start believing that Quick was right about what Nurk said and Cronin really is still planning on building around Dame, CJ and Nurk.

First of all, his production has rarely translated to wins. He has shot above 50% while averaging 24 ppg the last 4 games, and we have won 1 of them. He is the master of inconsequential 30 point games.

Second of all, the difference between the 9th worst record and the 7th worst record is not as substantial as it used to be in the lottery (see below). And in this draft, I'm comfortable in tiering prospects #3-10 all in the same bin.

    upload_2022-2-1_9-42-22.png

Third of all, why the hell would you accept 50 cents on the dollar from a team you will be competing with in future years?

Getting rid of CJ abd his contract is addition by subtraction

I'm not looking for 50 cents on the dollar (unless that means a collaboration between Curtis Jackson and Dame on his next album because I'm all for that). I want NOLA to have to pay top dollar for CJ since they are reportedly the team approaching us and in need of CJ's services. Reports say that they see CJ as the missing piece to lead Zion and Ingram. So I don't know what package you think they're trying to rip us off with but all I have seen are trade ideas not trade package rumors.

Truly I think you know I want RoCo sent to Chicago, a Bulls min contract player and our pick sent back to us and DJJ sent to Philly. I want CJ and whatever draft capital it takes sent to Philly along with DJJ while Simmons and Milton are sent to us. I don't think that's leaving money on the table and I don't think it would be impossible or even hard for Cronin to pull off. Any trade idea when looked at is unlikely to happen but that's what I'd ideally like to see happen.

Again, I don't want to sell low on CJ but I don't think his value is low right now, I don't think his value is actually going to go up or down at all between now and next season. I will say again though that him being traded now would put my mind at ease that we aren't going to be stuck with Dame/CJ for the rest of their careers. You say the writing is on the wall but I haven't seen anything that tells me for sure that the front office wants CJ gone and understands that Dame and him are a horrible combination. So yeah I want him gone for a fare price and don't think that should be so hard for Cronin to pull off.

I'm totally on the "trade CJ" bandwagon...... I'm pretty sure I have been captaining that ship since the beginning, but I don't want to dump him just for the sake of dumping him. He's still a good player.

On the Blazers, I believe that is the case. If there weren't so much duplication, it would be fine. But for some reason, Neil decided to get every 6'3", score first guard he could possibly lay his hands on.

    Dame - $40M
    CJ - $30M
    Norm - $16M
Ant - due for a LARGE raise
    Mac -
....and add DSJ who isn't shoot first, but certainly fits the size perimeters.

What a joke of a GM.

That sounds like CJs music and didn't we just hire someone from their front office? I'd want Okoro included, but maybe there's a deal to be made

I'm definitely ready for CJ to be dealt, but Rubio and a first definitely sounds like too little.

Rubio and a first for Powell is something I would consider. And I'd want to tack on Snell/Zeller for the tax savings.

    Hell no for CJ.
