This. I don't feel like he's a plus player as a starter, but he only really hurts you when he tries to dribble. He should never dribble. Ever.
Chief is a valuable player....best defender on the team...it's not even close. He finishes more fast breaks than Wes ever did...Dennis Rodman was no elite ball handler...Lamarcus won't dazzle you with his dribbling....seems folks just have this need to heckle the guy. He's unconventional but he makes it work...I don't get the narrative about him.
Here's the problem between moe's 6.5 ppg and 2.7rpg and AFA's 9.3 and 7.6rpg our starting forwards average 15.8 and 10.3. Basically their numbers combined are much worse than what many individual players do. Yes they are both pretty decent defenders. I think they're both role players but they also both have quite a few holes in their games and both positions they fill could be upgraded pretty substantially. I like Aminu but when you start listing off best 4's in the league he's quite a ways down the list and thus the narrative is if the Blazers really want to compete for championships, either through internal growth or trades they have to get better production from the 3 and / or 4 spot, they just do. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm a Blazer fan I'll cheer for them whether they upgrade those positions or not. I respect your opinion on the matter, and maybe we're more harsh with Aminu than we need to be, but the production of our forwards is lacking quite a bit.
Every coach likes to have an effort player. One who gets more minutes than he deserves, but whose presence puts pressure on everyone else to play hard. Aminu is one reason why fellow, but lesser, effort player Turner was special in Boston but not here.
How many fast breaks has Aminu finished? I barely remember more than 2 or 3. Regardless, Im lukewarm about him. Just as long as he doesn't dribble on the fast break.
yeah...you're watching baseball reruns...admit it dude! Chief finishes most of his drives to the lane...Wes never used to finish in transition..I'd hold my breath everytime...Chief I don't have this issue with. His dribble reminds me of a soccer player who's pushing the ball forward and at angles instead of keeping it close to his body ...he makes it work most of the time..it looks awkward compared to a guy like Layman who has Jerry West text book form...CJ has great handles but turns the ball over way more than Chief would
