No. 25 Cincinnati sends Mississippi State to 1st loss 65-50

No. 25 Cincinnati had plummeted to the fringe of the rankings and needed a confidence boost. The Bearcats got it against a previously unbeaten team.

Jacob Evans III had 24 points and eight rebounds as Cincinnati recovered from its back-to-back losses and handed Mississippi State its first defeat, 65-50 on Tuesday night.

Down by 22, No. 10 Xavier rallies for 68-66 win over ETSU

Trevon Bluiett missed 11 straight shots as Xavier fell behind by 22 points in the second half. When the 10th-ranked Musketeers absolutely had to get one, their top scorer stepped back and confidently put one in.

Bluiett's jumper with 6.3 seconds left completed the Musketeers' frantic rally Saturday to a 68-66 victory over ETSU, their biggest comeback in 18 seasons at the Cintas Center.

    No. 20 Cincinnati beats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 77-49

Coming off its best game, No. 20 Cincinnati wanted to keep the momentum going against an overmatched opponent. The Bearcats did it for a half.

Cane Broome matched his season high with 17 points Tuesday night as Cincinnati rolled to a 77-49 victory over winless Arkansas-Pine Bluff, extending the nation's longest home-court winning streak. They were coming off a 77-63 win at UCLA, their best showing yet.

No. 20 Cincinnati beats Cleveland State 81-62 with late run

Twice in a row, Kyle Washingtonmuscled his way into the crowd, got an offensive rebound and scored a basket, sparking the run that No. 20 Cincinnati needed to finally shake an overmatched opponent.

Washington's put-backs started a closing 21-8 spurt that swept the Bearcats to an 81-62 victory over Cleveland State on Thursday night, one that was close until the final surge.

No. 8 Wichita State beats UConn 72-62 in AAC debut

This was the type of debut Wichita State envisioned when it joined the American Athletic Conference.

Landry Shamet scored 16 points and the eighth-ranked Shockers opened conference play by beating UConn 72-62 in front of a packed arena, which has four national championship banners hanging from the rafters.

No. 19 Cincinnati survives road scare to top Temple

Stuck in a losing streak and clinging to a two-point lead over a Top 25 team, perhaps Temple coach Fran Dunphy should have taken a swig out of a water bottle instead of taking a swing at one.

Angered over an offensive foul whistled against the Owls, Dunphy -- who would rarely be confused with his Hall of Fame predecessor John Chaney for furious outbursts -- smacked the bottle on the scorer's table and the plastic container soared onto the court.

Dunphy was whistled for a technical -- and No. 19 Cincinnati pounced.

The Bearcats took the lead off the T, then capped their rally when Jacob EvansIII hit the winner with .4 seconds to play to send the Bearcats to a 55-53 win over Temple on Thursday night.

No. 9 Wichita State cruises past Houston 81-63

After watching his team get blown out fairly quickly, Houston coach Kelvin Sampson wished he had spent Thursday night at the movies.

He felt like he was in one as No. 9 Wichita State cruised past his Cougars 81-63.

No. 19 Cincinnati overcomes poor shooting, beats SMU 76-56

Cincinnati showed that in a matchup of stingy defensive teams, a lot of effort overcomes a lot of missed shots.

Jacob Evans III scored 18 points, and Gary Clark had a big second half as the 19th-ranked Bearcats pulled away to a 76-56 victory over SMU on Sunday, extending the longest active home-court winning streak in the country.

No. 9 Wichita State crushes South Florida 95-57

His team had just been blown out, and South Florida coach Brian Gregory grabbed the stat sheet to make sure his players saw a small number that stood out to him.

Landry Shamet, the star guard for No. 9 Wichita State, took just two shots in a 95-57 victory on Sunday.

No. 5 Wichita State rolls past East Carolina 95-60

Markis McDuffie is getting stronger. And that's only going to bolster a Wichita State team already off to a 4-0 start in its new league.

The junior had 12 points in the fifth-ranked Shockers' 95-60 win at East Carolina on Thursday night, his third straight double-figure scoring game as he works his way back from a foot injury that sidelined him for the first 11 games.

Shamet, Frankamp lead No. 5 Wichita St over Tulsa 72-69

In a game reminiscent of many big matchups between former Missouri Valley Conference rivals now reunited, No. 5 Wichita State edged Tulsa 72-69 Saturday before a sellout crowd that was evenly divided between the schools.

Cumberland has 18 points, No. 14 Cincinnati routs USF 78-55

Down 10 points on the road, No. 14 Cincinnati hardly blinked.

"There was no panic. I'm very confident with these guys," coach Mick Cronin said after Jarron Cumberland scored 18 points and the Bearcats shrugged off a slow start to beat struggling South Florida 78-55 on Saturday night.

No. 12 Cincinnati beats UCF 49-38

Gary Clark has seen the University of Central Florida's 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall for three seasons and he's still in awe.

Clark, a 6-8 senior at Cincinnati, scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in helping the Bearcats (16-2, 5-0) to an ugly, but effective 49-38 victory over Fall and the Knights (12-6, 3-3). Jacob Evans added 10 points for the Bearcats, who won their ninth game in a row.

Milton scores 33, lifts SMU over No. 7 Wichita State 83-78

SMU coach Tim Jankovich said his Mustangs would have to be "near perfect" to have a chance against No. 7 Wichita State.

Shake Milton gave Jankovich that and more.

"Might have been better than perfect," Jankovich said.

Milton scored a career-high 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting to lead the Mustangs to an 83-78 victory, snapping the Shockers' 27-game winning streak at Koch Arena on Wednesday night.

Wichita State loses 2nd consecutive conference game for first time since 2012-13

Wichita State had not lost back-to-back conference games since the 2012-13 season. The No. 7 Shockers have now dropped consecutive conference games in four days.

Wichita State lost its second straight game Saturday, losing to Houston 73-59. Houston, with Rob Gray scoring 24 points, beat a Top 10 team for the first time in 22 years.

No. 12 Cincinnati tops East Carolina for 10th straight win

Cincinnati has its best offensive team under Mick Cronin, but the Bearcats coach won't accept a lackluster defensive effort like the one he got in the first half against East Carolina.

"We had an attitude adjustment at halftime," Cronin said.

Jacob Evans III and Kyle Washington each scored 17 points, and Gary Clark had 14 points and 14 rebounds, lifting the No. 12 Bearcats to an 86-60 victory over East Carolina on Saturday.

Clark leads No. 9 Cincinnati over Temple 75-42

In the 117-year history of Cincinnati's basketball program, only four players had accumulated at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

Senior forward Gary Clark made it five Wednesday night.

"Anytime you do something at Cincinnati that Oscar Robertson did," coach Mick Cronin said, "that's pretty impressive."

Clark had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Jarron Cumberland scored 11 of his 13 in the first half to help the No. 9 Bearcats extend the nation's longest home winning streak with a 75-42 victory over Temple.

Morris helps No. 17 Wichita State to 81-62 win over UCF

For a guy who made eight of his 10 shots, Wichita State center Shaquille Morris sure made his two missed shots memorable.

He could laugh about them after scoring 19 points and getting the result No. 17 Wichita State desperately needed -- an 81-62 victory over Central Florida on Thursday night.

Clark, Evans lead No. 9 Cincinnati past Memphis 62-48

Opponents don't score many points against No. 9 Cincinnati's defense, with the Bearcats ranking second in the country allowing only 56.6 points a game.

Memphis didn't even reach that average.

The Bearcats held Memphis to 31.1 percent shooting, kept the Tigers from getting in an offensive flow much of the game and the combination helped Cincinnati win its 12th straight Saturday with a 62-48 victory over Memphis.
