Ryan Boatright scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half and the senior guard also had eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Larrier has 21 as No. 15 VCU buries UMES 106-66

Terry Larrier arrived at Virginia Commonwealth as a top recruit and is still making the adjustment.

He took a step forward Thursday night, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring 21 points in just 20 minutes as the No. 15 Rams beat Maryland-Eastern Shore 106-66. Larrier also had six rebounds and two of the Rams' 15 steals. In his first two college games, Larrier had made only three of 14 shots from the field.

Ryan Boatright tallies 20 points to lead UConn by Dayton

Last season, Connecticut was mostly unproven and unnoticed until the Huskies peaked late and won the NCAA title.

Through two games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, No. 17 UConn is playing like a team focused on defending its title.

Ryan Boatright had 20 points, Rodney Purvis added 19 and Connecticut rallied from five points down in the second half to defeat Dayton 75-64 in the semifinals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Friday.

No. 14 VCU tops Oregon 77-63 in Legends Classic

Virginia Commonwealth remembered how to play the in-your-face pressure defense that made the program an NCAA tournament staple.

One night after the Rams lost their way, they rebounded with a vintage defensive effort in that familiar "havoc" style.

Melvin Johnson scored 19 points and Treveon Graham had 13 to lead No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth past Oregon 77-63 on Tuesday night.

Ryan Boatright's status is day to day

UConn guard Ryan Boatright was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle following X-rays that showed no structural damage.

Boatright injured the ankle while fighting to get through a screen in the final seconds of the Huskies' 55-54 loss to Texas on Sunday. Longhorns forward Jonathan Holmes buried a 3-pointer for the win.

Cincinnati beats No. 19 San Diego State 71-62 in overtime

Four days after losing a game in double overtime because they couldn't make an open shot, the Bearcats fixed that problem.

Farad Cobb hit a 3-pointer that put Cincinnati in control in overtime, and the Bearcats pulled away to a 71-62 victory over No. 19 San Diego State on Wednesday night after letting a late lead slip away in regulation.

Memphis sophomore forward Kuran Iverson is leaving the program after being suspended for the past three games, the school announced Friday.

The 6-foot-9 Iverson was once a highly rated high school player coming out of Connecticut, but sources told ESPN that Memphis coach Josh Pastner kicked Iverson out of the program following yet another suspension -- and told him to transfer elsewhere. Iverson was averaging 4.6 points and 1.9 rebounds this season and is expected to leave after the spring semester.

Once Cincinnati settled down and got away from an early turnover-per-minute pace, everything turned out OK against No. 23 SMU.

So far, the Bearcats are the only American Athletic Conference team to beat coach Larry Brown's squad. And they have done it twice.

Jermaine Sanders scored 15 points, including one of two huge 3-pointers for Cincinnati as it started to pull away late in a 62-54 win Thursday night over a Mustangs team playing its first game since getting back into the Top 25.

After seeing their double-digit lead cut to four with 4 minutes left, SMU didn't panic because it had been here before and knew how to close things out.

Markus Kennedy scored 17 points, Nic Moore had 15 and the 25th-ranked Mustangs held off Houston 75-69 Thursday night.

Markus Kennedy and Yanick Moreira took the scoring lead for No. 25 SMU in Connecticut's first trip to the Dallas area since winning the national championship last April.

The Mustangs' big men were quite a passing tandem as well.

Kennedy and Moreira scored 13 points apiece and combined for a couple of dunks that helped build a big first-half lead in a 73-55 win Saturday night.

Once SMU figured out how to attack Memphis' box-and-one defense, the No. 21 Mustangs were able to pull away in the second half.

Nic Moore, the target of the single defender, scored 14 of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes and the Mustangs beat Memphis 66-57 on Thursday night.

Troy Caupain banged a layup off the rim with 61 seconds left, and his Cincinnati teammates told him to shake it off.

The sophomore guard listened, then more than made up for his miss.

Caupain got Cincinnati to overtime with his buzzer-beating layup, then Coreontae DeBerry helped the eighth-seeded Bearcats beat Purdue 66-65 Thursday night in their opening game in the NCAA tournament.

Sterling Gibbs scored 20 points, Shonn Miller had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 20 UConn rolled over Maine 100-56 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

No. 19 UConn beats New Hampshire 85-66

UConn turned to its perimeter game on Tuesday with its big men in early foul trouble and New Hampshire playing nothing but zone defense.

Sterling Gibbs responded by scoring 21 points and Rodney Purvis added 20 to lead the 19th-ranked Huskies to an 85-66 win over the Wildcats.
